I feel some responsibility, as we develop the software. But helical reconstruction is prone to getting stuck in local minima, and unfortunately still requires a lot of self-criticism. The most important one: if you don't see expected features in the map, don't trust it!

In Canada, proposed cuts of 15% across the federal government would have a dramatic effect on already globally decimated research & science.

Join Canada's research & science community and tell PM Mark Carney to preserve the funding promised in 2024.

Important to remember the theoretical size limit is based on assumptions and a model that may or may not be complete. It isn't some indisputable universal truth.

This one is a bit of a departure from the usual and definitely a work in progress!

We found that by using ab initio reconstruction at very high res, in very small steps, we could crack some small structures that had eluded us - e.g. 39kDa iPKAc (EMPIAR-10252), below.

Several more manuscripts to go, and I don't have a lot of time for a blue-torial(?) today, but enjoy and happy to get any feedback on this story.

Recruiting scientists from the US has to be coupled with increases to tricouncil funding, else we will fail both the recruits, & of course Canadian scientists, who are struggling with insufficient funds. Discovery & biomedical research funding (NSERC, CIHR) in Canada is among the lowest in the G7.
