This is exactly right. The Onion quietly left Twitter a month ago and... our weekly subscribers went up. It's because we're doing well here, on Instagram and on YouTube.

As a business, being on Twitter is somewhere between useless or detrimental, unless you're selling boner pills.

I am constantly baffled by the media people who insist that Twitter/X is “still” the Site of Record when anyone at any outlet will tell you that it was always a negligible source of actual traffic, and that was *before* Musk started throttling tweets with links

Antisemitism was a substantial, structural part of political rhetoric from the early modern period until WWII, and then for two generations after WWII, we had an abnormally low amount of political antisemitism due to horror at the Holocaust. We are probably headed back toward the historical norm.

The dynamics of the internet attention economy incentivize a certain kind of populist "elites vs. the people" framing that easily lapses into conspiracism, and that is going to lead to more antisemitism on the political extremes. This seems impossible to prevent going forward.
