OpenAI gives some employees a β€˜special’ multimillion-dollar bonus It’s good to be an AI researcher.

Yesterday, Sam Altman told OpenAI researchers and engineers they’re getting β€œspecial one-time” bonuses due to β€œmovement in the market” for AI talent. The bonuses will be worth millions for some.

β€œWe very much intend to keep increasing comp”, wrote Altman in Slack. www.theverge.com/command-line...

Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers Like Awards With Low Stakes

Talked to Bowen and Matt about the difficult of explaining Las Culturistas Culture Awards to publicists and the show's upcoming TV debut www.nytimes.com/2025/08/01/a...

i'm gonna stop wasting my time with this discussion

social media is good when it includes ppl talking about culture. the more the merrier. if 2 ppl are talking about something, that's a pretty meh time. if 0 ppl are talking about something, that's sad.

hope you grow out of being an asshole to ppl

07.08.2025 19:53 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

i'm glad you are ok with the limited or non-existent cultural stuff on here. congrats for you.

me and others think the lack of cultural stuff on here limit the fun being had on this place

07.08.2025 19:52 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

first ppl were posting about culture, then they weren't and that's their prerogative

stick to a point

07.08.2025 19:49 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

"it's limited. nonexistent in some instances."

you cut off the relevant bit -- what's your problem man? why are you mad that the experience of me and many others is thinking this place lacks cultural commentary?

07.08.2025 19:48 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

dude i'm on here and see the chatter about culture, both from circles I engage with and the broader network. it's limited. nonexistent in some instances. it is the disappointing reality of this place, and its part of why ppl want this place to be better

07.08.2025 19:42 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

and if you think there isn't a problem with angry scolds popping up in the replies of ppl they don't follow, mad that they're posting about a tv show when society is crumbling bc of our idiot president, or whatever else, you are mistaken on that front too

07.08.2025 19:40 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

if you think there is enough culture talk on this platform about the things i've mentioned, you're mistaken

07.08.2025 19:38 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

my idea of fun is people talking about the gilded age or the korean soccer star coming to LAFC or lady gaga's tour or the new zach cregger movie or the new restaurant that opened in melrose hill etc etc etc

if culture is antithetical to what ppl want (it's not), pls tell me what they want instead

07.08.2025 19:36 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

you can convince yourself of whatever you want -- but you proved my point when you replied to a post saying this place should be more fun by attacking me w nonsense

07.08.2025 19:09 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

maybe some ppl are "more than happy" -- but if most ppl were happy, usage wouldn't be dropping

most ppl want more fun on here -- more chatter of their favorite show or artist or sports team or whatever else

they want more community and fewer angry replies from trolls

07.08.2025 19:08 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

this is also a site for that as demonstrated by you mere moments ago and by the replies to soooo may posts on here! despite the fact that we agree we don't want this site to turn into X

07.08.2025 18:58 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

growth doesn't have to mean bullshit, bots, porn, etc. it doesn't always ruin experiences.

twitter pre X was not a ruined experience

growth means bringing voices to this platform that aren't on here that would make the experience more enjoyable, more entertaining, more informative, etc

07.08.2025 18:57 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I saw smart ppl grossed out at some nasty replies to reasonable analysis

The real question is why do you want less fun and more scolding? Just bc you and a 1000 ppl on here are angry nihilists doesn't mean the majority want that...

Things Aren’t Going Donald Trump’s Way He hasn’t ended the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. His economy looks shaky. And then there’s Jeffrey Epstein.

Bad news in Gaza and Ukraine. Bad news on the economy. Mismanagement everywhere. Obvious corruption. Epstein. And Epstein again.

Even loyal Republicans are now starting to worry about Trump. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Stephen Miller Is Getting $170 Billion To Build His Own Army To Target Our Immigrant Neighbors. Here’s What That Funding Could Do Instead This unprecedented allocation of taxpayer money could go to helping working families all across America, on everything from education, hunger, housing, healthcare, and the environment.

$170 billion could end homelessness. It could fund Head Start or pay for nutritious school meals for our kids for well over a decade. But it’s instead going to Stephen Miller so he can build his mass deportation army to target our immigrant neighbors: americasvoicecnn.substack.com/p/stephen-mi...

Letting institutionals like retirement funds invest in riskier stuff like venture funds gave venture capital access to massive pools of money and the sociopolitical power they have today. Doing the same for the people who murdered journalism and Bed, Bath, and Beyond seems bad.

Video shows Department of Justice official urging Jan. 6 rioters to 'kill' cops The Department of Justice hired a former Jan. 6 defendant who was caught on tape urging rioters to "kill" police. The department calls him a "valued member" of the administration.

Jared Wise was caught on video yelling "Kill 'em, kill 'em" as Jan. 6 rioters skirmished with the police. He called officers Nazis and the "Gestapo."

He's now "a valued member of the Justice Department," a spokesman said.

On one hand, I sympathize with people who get frustrated when politicians and campaigners act like the public isn't smart; on the other hand, 10% of Americans agree the earth is flat and another 14% aren't sure

this place needs more fun -- more tv and music and sports and jokes and all the rest -- and fewer irritating scolds

mainstream growth probably helps with that

i like bluesky. it’s good that bluesky shuns nazis and transphobes. not every platform needs to be for everyone.

but imho a social media analyst getting dogpiled on here for doing social media analysis is the kind of thing that turns a lot of (reasonable, non-bigoted) people off from this place

I don’t think concluding Israel is committing genocide in Gaza is in any way antisemitic, but I do suspect veiled antisemitism in needing the Jewish state to be responsible for β€œthe worst genocide ever in human history by every objective metric” so no one has to feel guilt over the Shoah any longer.
