(v)Medical assistance to aliens not lawfully admitted for permanent residence (1)Notwithstanding the preceding provisions of this section, except as provided in paragraphs (2), (4), and (5), no payment may be made to a State under this section for medical assistance furnished to an alien who is not lawfully admitted for permanent residence or otherwise permanently residing in the United States under color of law. (2)Payment shall be made under this section for care and services that are furnished to an alien described in paragraph (1) only if— (A)such care and services are necessary for the treatment of an emergency medical condition of the alien, (B)such alien otherwise meets the eligibility requirements for medical assistance under the State plan approved under this subchapter (other than the requirement of the receipt of aid or assistance under subchapter IV, supplemental security income benefits under subchapter XVI, or a State supplementary payment), and (C)such care and services are not related to an organ transplant procedure. (3)For purposes of this subsection, the term “emergency medical condition” means a medical condition (including emergency labor and delivery) manifesting itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that the absence of immediate medical attention could reasonably be expected to result in— (A)placing the patient’s health in serious jeopardy, (B)serious impairment to bodily functions, or (C)serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part.

One attorney, Lizbeth Mateo, said ICE officials slated several of her clients for check-ins at the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building in downtown L.A. but when they showed up on Tuesday, they were detained and immediately escorted to the basement. Mateo said a couple and their two children, one of whom is a U.S. citizen, spent the night in a room with no beds and limited access to food and water. Mateo said the father had previously been issued a stay of removal, barring him from deportation but he and his family were detained anyway. His wife was released Wednesday evening along with their children since she needed medical attention due to a high-risk pregnancy. He was still being detained early Friday, Mateo said.

🚨NEW: @cbsnews.com reports ICE is arresting people who can't even legally be deported and holding them without enough food or water in a federal building BASEMENT in Los Angeles.

Families dutifully attending check-ins with ICE are being arrested and held for days, forced to sleep on the floor.

That would be fine if you were working with people who care about our democracy, not a fascist, authoritarian regime. Working with them legitimizes them. Please stop.
