She peered into the gift bag - were wrapping paper and sellotape too much to ask for?
"Oh gosh."
"You like that author don't you?"
"Mmm." No matter how she fixed her smile, her eyes flickered to where a copy of the book sat on the bookshelf.
"You know me so well."
This is great, thank you.

07.10.2025 20:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Front cover of Jilly Cooper's book Riders. The picture is of a lady's bottom, she is wearing skin tight white jodhpurs and a man's hand is cupping her right buttock. She is also holding a riding whip held loosely across the back of her legs.
Picture showing the spine of Jilly Cooper's book Riders with the famous picture of a man's hand on a lady's Jodhpur clad bottom. The book spin is creased and curved showing it has been read many times, the top pages are brown with age and crinkled from much use - a bit like this reader.
Today I got down my 1986 copy of Rider, in honour of Jilly. I was far too young to be given the hardback from the library by my mother π³ but I couldn't wait to get my own copy.
I normally keep my books pristine, no broken spine. But this one has been so well read and loved, and it shows it.
#WriteCBC The lounge was more like a dentist's waiting room; hard, bright surfaces, sharp angled chrome furniture, cold white light. But behind the stinging scent of bleach something else lurked, catching in her throat, recalling a memory of biting into a crisp apple, only to find the centre rotten.

Did you know that London has the lowest level of ethnic violence of any city of comparable size in the world?
Multiculturalism has in fact worked here. They just donβt want it to be true because we happen to have a Muslim mayor.
