Rate of traffic fatalities are increasing across North America. The vast majority of this suffering can be avoided.
If we've decided as a society that the automobile will remain the dominant mode of transportation, then this is what's required.
Otherwise, fund public transit.

These were not common when your parentsโor perhaps even youโlearned to drive. Yet, our quickly evolving, car-dependent society has no regulations on furthered education for average people.

About 20% of Canadians are aged 65+. These folks haven't had their driving tested in nearly half a century.
Were they tested on sharing the road with micro-mobility? Navigating roundabouts? What about cell phones?

Every vehicle on the road needs to be electric, and we also need about 60% fewer vehicles on the road.

The City of Regina should operate secure bicycle parking on Scarth Street during the summer months.
I wonder how much downtown activity would increase if people could park cheaply and didn't have to worry about a stolen bike.

The average Saskatchewan resident is responsible for 13x more planet-warming gases than the average human on Earth.
The result of which will certainly cost much more in the (not so distant) future, compared to the estimated social costs of carbon of $275 per tonne in 2025.

Perhaps the most important piece from the report on foreign interference is the warning about misinformation and disinformation on social media.
Commissioner Hogue says disinformation has "the ability to distort our discourse, change our views and shape our society."

Do you really need to take 10,000 steps a day? - Shannon Odell
TEDEd has produced an excellent 5-minute video on the benefits of a simple walk and how walkable communities can, be default, contribute to one's health.

A gorgeous historic street in central Utrecht
Utrecht, Netherlands gets a lot of well-deserved attention for its best-practice urban biking. Donโt forget though, itโs also just a gorgeous, historic, dense, human-scaled walkable city for people. HT @luccampbell.bsky.social #Dutch

North American cities were primarily designed for one mode of transportation.
Now weโre faced with more vehicles than available space, and politicians falsely claim this problem can be solved by continuing the same trend.

Paris to Replace Parking Spaces With Trees
The cityโs new climate plan promises to drop speed limits, repurpose traffic lanes, remove 60,000 parking spots and create urban โoasesโ to combat extreme heat.
This level of action is what is required to prevent the worst of climate change and to improve our cities. The sooner governments realize this, the better off we will be.

Still, given the incoming President, it's tough to imagine we won't blow past 1.5.
