Apparently Trump is planning to divert tariff revenue to a new 'Sovereign Wealth Fund' that will fund projects he deems important. It is unconstitutional at best and daylight robbery at worst.
No doubt he and his cronies will benefit while we all pay more.

It seems to me that the Trump administration is targeting the low hanging fruit, easy targets and the most vulnerable in society that will push back the least.
How long will it take for us to realize that the US economy relies on the good work of federal employees, the labor of immigrants?

I agree that Europe needs to step up and take responsibility for their own security and that of countries under the threat of an imperialist Russian regime. But the way the Trump administration is pulling the rug from under the feet of Ukraine's freedom fighters is unforgivable.

Frankly I have no idea if the reduction in the federal workforce is justified. But there is a way to investigate and deal with that and the vilification of loyal, clearly talented, good Americans is not the way.

I think what concerns me most about the Trump administration is the arrogance and lack of empathy. Where are the offers to support or retrain those federal workers cast aside if somehow they are enemies of the state?

I'm surprised at how quiet the current and former leaders of the Democratic Party are during this chaotic but systematic demolition of the federal government. Are they waiting to give Trump and his cronies sufficient rope to truly hang themselves?

Taking sand from the edge of the channel just makes the channel wide, not deeper and slows down the flow of water thus making the sluicing action of tidal currents less effective. Use rock to narrow the channel to the minimum width required for navigation. Use the tidal ponds upstream to sluice!

Surely this could be a really valuable case study for one of our research universities to try to understand what the risks are and to suggest potential solutions?

What's clear is that removing pristine sand is the easy option and definitely not the solution to maintaining a navigable channel in Hayle Harbor. And the removal of sand is likely damaging the world class beaches of the bay and the marine ecosystem.

Removing the clean (valuable) sand from the sides of the channel does little to keep the harbor navigable. The problem is the mud in the actual channel used by boats is difficult and more costly to remove and is likely full of toxic chemicals from mines and farms upstream. And who is going to pay?

In my opinion the only way to maintain equilibrium would be if the sand was dumped back in the bay. The location where the sand should be dumped would need to be established by studying the currents in St Ives Bay.

'Dredging' has been happening there for many decades. When I lived there in the 90's it was happening and the same discussions occurred then. I'd be really curious to know what effect the dredging has on the sand dunes not just at the mouth of the estuary but the entire St Ives Bay.
