4 years ago, May Street Elementary started to offer 🚲 education in PE class.

They were a pilot school in 2021 when I won a $20k safety grant from ODOT and along with the bike train, it showed the need for a Safe Routes to School program for all 9 schools in Hood River County School District.

As advocates, we must be clear in our terminology. E-bikes and E-motos are not the same thing.

It’s easy to misidentify symptoms as the root problem.

Downtown from the air from a time when there were more surface parking lots than actual buildings in some downtowns.

Few things did more critical damage to North American downtowns than the demolishing of old buildings to build massive expanses of surface parking, along with the widening of roads to create huge one-way “car sewers,” all based on the failed theory that surrendering to cars would “save Downtown.”

Calgary's own data shows approx 70% of people would choose to ride more if they felt safe.

Said another way, 70% of Calgarians think our roads are unsafe to cycle on.

Bike-lanes don’t cause traffic congestion.

Car dependency, foolish land-use sprawl, too many (& bigger) cars driving too much taking up too much space, highly subsidized driving costs, and not enough choices in how to get around, ALL cause traffic congestion.

First time I see this: cargo bikes outnumbered cars at after-school pickup. 5 bike arriving almost at the same time to pick up 8 kids. The weather helped, but the shift feels real.
