Thanks for sharing this John! I feel like I'm going mad sitting through talks which start with warnings about GenAI's climate impact/inaccuracy/IP issues and then follow that up with "anyway here's how to use chatGPT for your literature review".

Bank of England warns AI stock bubble rivals 2000 dotcom peak
Central bank says market concentration hasnβt been this extreme in 50 years.
"In the late 1990s, investors poured money into Internet companies based on the promise of a transformed economy, seemingly ignoring whether individual businesses had viable paths to profitability."
Like every major AI company they're investing in today.

JK Rowling pledges to keep up fight against SNP trans policies
Author vows to bankroll campaigners after Scottish government fails to pay group's legal fees in Supreme Court equality case
It cannot be made clearer.
If you continue to support the Harry Potter franchise in any way, you are directly funding the removal of trans people's human rights in the UK.

Done lots of riding this summer but still feel that in 3 weeks I may regret this morning's impulsive decision.
Good opportunity to see how many sweets I can eat in 10 hours though...

Tweet from Stuart Stevens:
When Democrats take the House, they must understand they are not a governing party.
They are a dissident movement.
Act like it.
First day:
- cut off all funding of Exec. Branch
-vote to nationalize Starlink and SpaceX
-defund ICE
That's the first day.
On the second, get more aggressive.
There is nothing in the middle of the road but yellow lines and dead armadillos.

Itβs appalling that these companies are not pulling these dangerous products off the market until they can make them safe. Itβs appalling that regulators arenβt intervening. Itβs appalling that the makers/boosters of genAI products are trying to ensure there can be no regulation.

Graham Simpson, Conservative MSP for Central Scotland since 2016, has just defected to Reform UK. This is the second time they've had an MSP via defection, following Michelle Ballantyne ahead of 2021. She led the Scottish arm to 0.2% of the vote; times have certainly changed since then.

I think we should be more concerned about this than is currently the case. And it should be easier to switch off AI functionality. Currently I'm using -AI in Google searches but there must be a better way? 3/3

Obviously the answer to this question is no, but more importantly, I will not take a question like this seriously until it is demonstrated to me that the makers of LLM technology, and their boosters in business and the media, have even the slightest concern for the suffering of actual human beings.

Aside from the frothing racism of these people, what is really grim about this is the idea that government are powerless to change culture. If your constituents think these things *they are wrong* and you need to explain why. It's not actually your job as an MP to rubber stamp fascism.

The Museums throughout Washington, but all over the Country are, essentially, the last remaining segment of "WOKE." The Smithsonian is OUT OF CONTROL, where everything discussed is how horrible our Country is, how bad Slavery was, and how unaccomplished the downtrodden have been - Nothing about Success, nothing about Brightness, nothing about the Future. We are not going to allow this to happen, and I have instructed my attorneys to go through the Museums, and start the exact same process that has been done with Colleges and Universities where tremendous progress has been made. This Country cannot be WOKE, because WOKE IS BROKE. We have the "HOTTEST" Country in the World, and we want people to talk about it, including in our Museums.

It's a shame the Guardian didn't give Sacha the opportunity to contribute to their piece. His thread is remarkably measured given the impact of this whole ordeal. But then I guess asking the authors who have withdrawn for their reasoning removes the possibility of painting them as an angry mob.

Non-binary teachers cannot insist on being called Mx, says Education Secretary
School staff can request but not demand use of gender-neutral title
Why should non-binary teachers not be afforded same respect other teachers are granted? Why should they be denied recognition and made to feel excluded? It makes no difference to anyone else's life if they are referred to as Mx. Yet again, this government goes down the route of embedding bigotry.
