It might be the combination of jab and gym, at least that's what a pharmacist told me regarding the Covid-shot: Physical activity could make it worse. I was so exhausted that I didn't need to be told that twice.

I don't have children but I thought the same: Would that be the pedagogical lesson I'd draw from this?!

Hannah Arendt circa 1930; she is sitting, and looking off into the distance, she is holding a cigarette in her left hand, and her hands are clasped together.

The totalitarian attempt at global conquest and total domination has been the destructive way out of all impasses. Its victory may coincide with the destruction of humanity; wherever it has ruled, it has begun to destroy the essence of man. Yet to turn our backs on the destructive forces of the century is of little avail. The trouble is that our period has so strangely intertwined the good with the bad that without the imperialists' β€˜expansion for expansion's sake,’ the world might never have become one; without the bourgeoisie's political device of β€˜power for power's sake,’ the extent of human strength might never have been discovered; without the fictitious world of totalitarian movements, in which with unparalleled clarity the essential uncertainties of our time have been spelled out, we might have been driven to our doom without ever becoming aware of what has been happening. And if it is true that in the final stages of totalitarianism an absolute evil appears (absolute because it can no longer be deduced from humanly comprehensible motives), it is also true that without it we might never have known the truly radical nature of Evil.

Hannah Arendt,
(1906-1975)
The Origins of Totalitarianism (1951).

This is chilling...

Isn't that the casus belli?

I've no idea which one this is, these fights occurred more than once, often in the context of someone making a remark on the freshness of fish.

Plus these ghastly long-term ramifications like increased risk for cancer, diabetes, dementia and more but I'd be glad already if we could acknowledge the present and obvious desaster that's right in front of our eyes.

I have no idea what the current political set-up is in France but I learn so much new vocabulary by reading French accounts I follow, so many useful swearwords πŸ€—

I know nobody wants to hear it but I don’t think you can make meaningful sense of how insane everything is now without accounting for the obscene burden of illness we’ve been forced to bear, the social prohibition on acknowledging it, and the attendant post-viral sequelae like brain fog and fatigue

The result is stunning! I can almost feel the silky chocolate mousse on my tongue! Don't worry about your pictures, if someone asked me I would have guessed they were made by a professional photographer. (I maybe underestimate people because my own skillset is rather limited.)

Zweig in "Die Welt von Gestern" writes about something similar, poets, writers, scholars stopped talking about the subjects they were interested in because the introduction of passports (and more) meant problems and paperwork. Let's drown people in admin. so they cannot think anymore, it seems.

I always stumble when I read "perished" in these posts. Creating circumstances that were unsurvivable is murder, too.

In Our Time - Hannah Arendt (Archive Episode) - BBC Sounds Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss the ideas and life of Hannah Arendt, political philosopher

Why the past matters. Chilling testimony from Hannah Arendt writing in the middle of the last century on how darkness thrives when we stop listening to each other’s stories

The photos you post look like paradise - and then you write about eagles and chickens and generators and it becomes clear how hard this paradise is won.
