Relatedly, it's worth highlighting how outrageous it is that when Trump threatens to punish New York if it elects Mamdani, Cuomo's own impulse is to try to use that to score cheap political points against Mamdani, rather than to call out Trump for the threats. He's all opportunism, all the time.

Republicans understand that the best way to kill social programs is to paint their beneficiaries as Black, as support for these programs declines — even amongst white people who need them — when they think large numbers of Black people will benefit.

NYC used to have a GOTV campaign "Vote for the city you want". Really right on point. And I think about it applied to the US. People looked at Trump (and having been pres. before knew what they were getting) and thought "that's the country I want."
