02.08.2025 14:26 β π 1184 π 285 π¬ 9 π 21I just wish weird psychosexual obsessions functioned the way they used to. 19th century weirdos aiming to end masturbation made us both a breakfast cereal and a tasty cracker. That NEVER happens today. Nobody tries to criminalize IUDs and accidentally invents a new kind of Milano.
03.08.2025 03:09 β π 2654 π 524 π¬ 49 π 31why are billionaires so bad at doing the billions game? I mean, not rooting for them, like at all, quite the opposite, but I watch their plays, who they support, and theyβre just so bad at directing/hyping an economy. itβs like money no longer matters to them and they just want more power. oh noβ¦
02.08.2025 15:32 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0I canβt begin to enumerate the ways the Corporation for Public Broadcasting made my life better, literally from my earliest memories until today. This is gut wrenching.
01.08.2025 17:11 β π 749 π 193 π¬ 16 π 11Whatβs a technology that you think is overhyped? Iβm going to give a sideways answer to this, which is that the venture capital business model needs to be understood as requiring hype. You can go back to the Netscape IPO, and that was the proof point that made venture capital the financial lifeblood of the tech industry. Venture capital looks at valuations and growth, not necessarily at profit or revenue. So you donβt actually have to invest in technology that works, or that even makes a profit, you simply have to have a narrative that is compelling enough to float those valuations. So you see this repetitive and exhausting hype cycle as a feature in this industry. A couple of years ago, you would have been asking me about the metaverse, then last year, you would have asked me about Web3 and crypto, and for each of these inflection points thereβs an Andreessen Horowitz manifesto. Itβs not simply that one piece of technology is overhyped, itβs that hype is a necessary ingredient of the current business ecosystem of the tech industry. We should examine how often the financial incentive for hype is rewarded without any real social returns, without any meaningful progress in technology, without these tools and services and worlds ever actually manifesting. Thatβs key to understanding the growing chasm between the narrative of techno-optimists and the reality of our tech-encumbered world.

thatβs crazy fast, that means the waves were moving at about 1.4 miles a second

Sewers, pizza, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ββ this one has everything that's cool, comical and subterranean. It was a brilliant plan. It was executed perfectly. That is, until one fatal flaw brought the whole operation crashing down.

donβt love the painful irony that this inspired Columbus
