it became clear that Gege did not want to continue writing and started wrapping it up in a haphazard way.
which is fineโ no one's entitled to anything from himโ but the series as a whole did suffer a major blow in quality bc of that.
if you're talking strictly about the anime, not the manga, this comparison is (more) apt.
the manga erodes at most of the series' strengths post-Shibuya. It starts to suffer from classic problems: power creep, character bloat, rushed pacing, seemingly random developments etc.
this feels like a consequence of broadcast format rather than artistic intent. not that the end result is different bc of that.
