It looks like the degree maintains 120 hours, but will be year round, with winter and summer sessions included. Not as bad as I thought (I’ve been hearing of a push for 90-hour bachelor’s), but still doesn’t seem ideal.

This is a very important point. I think @aaup needs to include students' mental health and physical safety along with pedagogy and IP theft when discussing the proper role of LLM/"genAI" on campus.

Shamblin’s conversation partner wasn’t a classmate or friend – it was ChatGPT, the world’s most popular AI chatbot. A CNN review of nearly 70 pages of chats between Shamblin and the AI tool in the hours before his July 25 suicide, as well as excerpts from thousands more pages in the months leading up to that night, found that the chatbot repeatedly encouraged the young man as he discussed ending his life – right up to his last moments.

Our IT dept. finally provided a way to opt out of the AI tool that had been forced into our email platform to help increase efficiency by sorting mail it deemed unimportant into a "Promotions" folder. My response:

A "frontier" RCT showing college students preferred LLM (ChatGPT-4) and peer feedback to teacher feedback, but teacher feedback most improved performance. I hope they analyze feedback for style. I wonder whether students positively responded to sycophancy in LLM. #PsychSciSky #AcademicSky #EduSky

I know people have argued with me about the specifics for months now but the truth is a lot of people are way overthinking this and if even a small minority of the Congress actually really wanted Trump out of office, he would be out of there in very short order.

This is an example of how bias is “baked in” to LLMs.

And we keep hearing how important it is to incorporate GenAI tools into our teaching. If only it were that easy…

In late 80s I was social worker in Houston working in Verification unit for food stamps. Made unannounced home visits to verify applicants were qualified &had reported all income etc. Unit was dismantled because cost more to run than were recovering. Very little fraud.So many myths/lies about SNAP

i hate both the fact that AI use is wrecking things for students who have integrity, AND that every prof assumes cheating from everyone, now, and goes to great lengths to prove that everyone is. and when they can’t, they weight written assignments so heavily that one mistake blows the GPA.

Also it is objectively unhinged that Mike Johnson has simply chosen to freeze an entire branch of government by refusing to call it into session. He’s the second most powerful person in our government and is treated like he has no obligations or responsibilities.

Maybe the thing that gives me a pulse-pounding throbbing headache is when I think of how techbros sold ChatGPT to universities as ‘revolutionizing’ higher education and our institutions just forked over money without even asking for actual evidence
