Renewable energy engineer. Offshore wind, onshore wind, green hydrogen. MSc renewable energy. Saving the world one project at a time. Militant vegetarian trying to kick the cheese habit. CCS and blue hydrogen are pure greenwash bullshit.

07.08.2025 16:07 โ ๐ 56 ๐ 19 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0In winter 22/23, the UK Gov was forced to spend ยฃ40 billion subsidising gas to protect homes & businesses.
That's nearly ยฃ600 for every UK person.
Wasted because we remain dependent on volatile gas.
Think it won't happen again in today's world?
We can't afford fossil fuels.
Again, Iโd invite you to take this discussion away from Mr Vandermeerโs mentions.
However, is there any amount of mitigation that you would accepts as sufficient?

Okay, Iโve done reports on that project, but would you like to tell me what your particular concerns with it are first? And perhaps it would be polite for us to take this discussion away from Mr Vandermeerโs mentions?

05.08.2025 19:39 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If those ecosystems are as delicate as you claim, and I believe you that they are, then they will be first to be impacted and suffer most from the climate change that will only accelerate from continued insufficient renewables development
05.08.2025 18:50 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0but it is unrealistic to demand that renewable projects have zero impact at all
05.08.2025 18:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Youโre correct that I donโt have personal experience of those projects. However, projects can always be, and should be, designed to as sensitively as practically possible and certainly not inhibit migration. It is not a technological limit, but
05.08.2025 18:36 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0The construction activity might be destructive if there are delicate / rare ecosystems in the area of construction then they should be replaced elsewhere. There is no construction with zero impact, but the ongoing use of fossil fuels will have a greater negative impact on those very same habitats

Solar projects are great for restoring native habitats, funding the change of land use from monoculture grass grazing, to e.g., natural wild flower meadow, that can happily cohabit with it

Raising the ยฃ cap on wind energy will mean more projects built, lowering energy prices, because renewable energy is cheaper than fossil fuel. Now we need to get rid of tying electricity to gas prices, and invest in grid infrastructure
