Right-wing plot to set up β€˜intellectual freedom centers’ at public universities UNC-Chapel Hill and the University of Florida are part of the effort to push conservative ideology on college students in the guise of civics education

They say to understand politics follow the money. This excellent article does that for the expanding 'civic institute' scam. Tracing the money trail leads back to a shadowy network of right-wing billionaires like the Koch family.

Absolutely reprehensible that AG Bondi is offering ICE stand down in exchange for access to voting rolls. Outrageous and disgusting. It shows ICE is in Minneapolis is not for law enforcement purposes. Instead it’s a way to stir up shit in blue states and extort them.

You observed on Wednesday that a lot of the justices sounded pissed. They were like: How did we get to this point? And it’s their own fault! They gave Trump so much leeway in all of these earlier cases to break the law. Then they seemed irked when he crossed the line that they had tried to draw in the sand over the Federal Reserve. They seemed to wonder: How could this happen? Well, look in the mirror. When you capitulate, you empower Trump to push further past your limits. That’s the lesson that the international community seems to have learned, and that our more courageous judges in the lower courts have learned. Let’s just hope that John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett are learning it now, because it’s one of the few things that could turn around this catastrophe.

With Trump, you’ve got to hold the line, or else you just get bowled over. That is what everyone out in the streets in Minnesota is doing right now, and we are seeing the results. The average protester blowing a whistle on the streets of the Twin Cities has shown more courage than John Roberts has in maybe his entire career.

Trump is weak, Bondi is weak, Miller is weak. The administration is filled with cartoon bullies who crumple when they face real opposition. Minnesotans get it. Denmark gets it. Lower court judges get it, and the best have moved into DGAF mode. When will SCOTUS get it? slate.com/news-and-pol...

Trump looks likely to lose Cook case, as he should. Which means usual apologists will herald Roberts for bravely reining Trump in ... when in reality the chief justice created this entire moment. This is mildly turning down heat on a pot that the conservative supermajority already brought to boil.

State supreme court races are some of the most important in the nation. In North Carolina and Ohio, it's the reason why state and congressional maps remain gerrymandered. Not running candidates in what could be a wave year is crazy-making.

How the Supreme Court Broke Congress In the name of protecting the balance of powers, the Court is radically refashioning that balance.

The US Supreme Court has too much power. And once the Court was packed with pro-billionaire partisans, the Roberts Court used that power to break Congress, the most democratic branch.

In a democracy, 57% disproval of the masked federal agents invading cities, shooting citizens and violating the rights of millions of people would result in a massive shift in policy.

The Supreme Court only cleared the way for Kavanaugh Stops four months ago and ICE now openly engages in violent racial profiling, snatching anyone who looks non-white and treating them as presumptively guilty of a crime. Remarkable how quickly our liberties can be crushed when courts go along.

John Roberts Wouldn’t Recognize an Anti-Trans Law If It Slapped Him in the Face The chief justice who doesn’t think banning healthcare for trans kids discriminates against trans people is ready to look the other way again.

today's updates:

- I listened to the Supreme Court's oral argument in the trans sports cases so you don't have to

- John Roberts and co continue to have their heads lodged, firmly yet comfortably, in their asses

North Carolina Republicans are making it harder for Black voters and college students to vote after usurping control over election administration in violation of NC’s separation of powers.

Republicans undermined voting access this way when they last ran the election boards under ex-Gov. Pat McCrory
