I was on the beach at midnight. It wasn’t actually raining but with so much heavy mist in the air it might as well have been. And it was dark as could be by the bay. I was just out for a walk before bed.

Rashid is Armand indulging in a better version of a scarring past but all things come to an end. Because Rashid is not Arun and Armand is not Rashid and Armand is Arun and Amadeo and Armand AND Rashid but at the end, the question remains: who is Armand?

Armand has performed so mich that he has split himself into multiple versions and the only way to remember, to recall, to look back is to perform a character similar to who he was. To create another version.

I think Armand becomes Rashid also for himself and in this, he allows himself to be. And I think this is the tragedy of Rashid (and Armand) which is that Rashid is not real. He is a performance, a fiction that Armand has put on just like Armand is also a performance.

Rashid is Arun but with a better master. An Arun that has his service repaid. An Arun who would never be donated to others. Who is adored even when impertinent. Who doesn't worry about his position in his master's heart and house. And most importantly, who can become Armand whenever he wants.

I think that Rashid is Armand's way of participating in this act of recollecting. It was his way, perhaps subconsciously, of connecting to Arun. And it gives him permission to do things that he never does again in the story such as engaging in prayer and speaking in his native language

And then I began to think about Rashid and the purpose Rashid served. Yh armand wanted to control the interview via Rashid but why did he choose to become the most devoted, most trusted attendant? IWTV is all about memory and the past and looking at the past via the lens of the present

I just finished officially watching #iwtv and i've since been obsessed w/ Armand. I've been reading fics and watching fanvids & as I watching one, the line "I serve a god" stuck out to me. I'd heard it many times b4 but this time, I noticed that the line paralleled "i served him with all my heart"
