It puzzles me that we in the West simply let these incursions happen. Serious condemnations and hand-wringing. That’s it - until the next event. Rinse and repeat. Turkey on the other hand took another approach. And lo and behold Russia caved.

A few days ago, I was thinking of America and the idea of Europe. Vance and Hegseth touched on this same exact matter in their recent notorious online conversation, so might as well post my thoughts here.

Once the precedent is set, what guarantees we allies have that the admin after the next won’t be just as bad as this one. None. As sad as it makes me to say this, but conclusions should be made. 3/

A simple change in leadership will not do it. If Democrats get their act together they may win the midterms and they may even win the next presidential elections, but I’m afraid that won’t do it. 2/

A reminder for us all. The current admin is prepared to extort with everything they got. As a staunch transatlantist this makes me incredibly sad, but it has become evident that the US is no longer a trustworthy ally. And once gone, the process to rebuild trust is very slow. 1/
