There’s a motonormativity aspect for sure, but it also seems related to our penchant for wearing shirts displaying phrases and even complete sentences. I’d love to know what’s going on there.

I felt the same at first. Stick with it for some wry dark humor if that’s your thing. And there are clever call backs to the early portions.

My experience suggests likelihood to read the syllabus is *inversely* proportional to time spent in law school. πŸ˜‚

Checks out.

Biking with my daughter, we’ve paused to pick wildflowers, chatted with a friend sitting on her balcony, and yelled while passing through a tunnel to hear the echo.

Damn I loved Ancillary Justice and the rest of the trilogy, glad to see Ann Leckie on here.

I could *possibly* secure the rear of my cargo bike here…with the rest of the bike extending five feet from that cute lock hole, rendering the sidewalk unusable.

There’s nothing new or interesting about the rate of requests. In fact, tools for automating web requests include a rate *limiting* option to avoid being β€œtoo noisy”—exceeding thresholds that trigger alarms and/or traffic blocking. See Burp 2.x (portswigger.net/blog/burp-2-...)

Toaster with a backlit indicator for toasting level

Following @techconnectify.bsky.social has conditioned me to appreciate the charming silliness of this backlit toast level indicator. Great for operating in a dark kitchen.

Lovely weather for a #WeekWithoutDriving in STL.

It seems like a strange reaction for a local, given what I’ve seen (from you, thanks!) of Minneapolis bike infrastructure/culture.

These are the folks who say β€œyou’re crazy” for having biked to work or whatever on city streets. Partly because they’re accustomed to driving on highways and stroads and picture that, but on a bicycle.

There is a category of people who believe bicycles can/should be operated only for recreation on designated paths, after transporting them by motor vehicle.

I’m hopeful they can be convinced otherwise by seeing bikes being used for transportation all over.

This is such an excellent example of advocacy. It meets folks outside the issue where they are.

Recently my kid started kindergarten, eliminating a trip that was 3 miles, largely exposed and crossing 3 car-heavy roads (incl. waits at stoplights).

Our new route is <2 miles through a park and a neighborhood, mostly shaded, crossing no major streets, and involving no stoplights. Pure 🚲 bliss.

Pretty compact, but that’s an 80-pound bag of mortar mix for a home repair project.

A small grocery run, and my kid wanted some flowers for her mom.

Poor infrastructure is a bummer for sure.

For visibility, it helps that e-bikes typically include lights powered by the main battery. I ride with mine always on, and I think that makes me much easier to see.

An ebike is a fantastic grocery getter! Note: unless it’s a cargo bike or pulling a trailer, you will probably do smaller, more frequent trips.

Biking on low speed surface streets is fine with some practice. It helps to ride with a group or experienced cyclist a couple times to get comfortable.

St. Louis e-bike solidarity!

Daycare pickup and my work commute are as much exercise as I want them to be. I also found it easier to bike in winter, as I can dress for my destination and choose to not work up a sweat.

It’s difficult for people to appreciate nuance in an unfamiliar topic.

But you’ve done a service to electricians who encounter the video; they certainly *can* appreciate the nuance, and they may offer more economical solutions as a result.

This week I had a suburb trip planned after picking up my kid, so I drove my car instead of my cargo bike. 15 minutes stuck in traffic to cover 2.5 miles from daycare to a restaurant.

Absolutely miserable, and I used to just live like that.
