Shrinkflation by another name. They’ll charge the same for even less, but call it health conscious this time.

Tesla Robotaxis Reportedly Crashing at a Rate That’s 4x Higher Than Humans

The incidents bring the robotaxi service to a total of 14 crashes since launching last summer.

The new data raises concerns about how safe Tesla’s systems really are compared to the average driver.

The same idea goes for the foam stiffness. But there could be rolling resistance losses similar to the tube-tire interface losses. This is where I’d have to read up more on the behavior of the tube-tire losses over pressure and temperature ranges. Someone has probably done the testing somewhere.

As for the tube foam inserts. It gets interesting. The foam is between the tube and the tire. Technically a spring in series with the tire and tube system. It’s also a bit further out radially. But if the weight is similarly small vs the rest of the system it can be argued it could be ignored.

Their fraudulently named driving software doesn’t work, isn’t safe, and is years behind competitors. Their competitors also aren’t safe and aren’t ready for prime time. None of them even publish safety data despite being allowed to swerve into bike lanes and endanger lives.

One could argue that it does at least add some small mass at the rim which does increase rotational inertia. But if it’s negligible vs the performance and resulting time loss from decreasing air pressure from burping in off road races then it’s a net gain.

If the stiffness of the tire at pressure is significantly higher than the stiffness of the foam, it’s likely one can ignore it.

It would also be interesting to see if the foam insert has a significant effect on the overall tire stiffness. Tires are typically are modeled as a spring and a damper. I would be interested in seeing if the foam has a significant effect on tire stiffness, as the air is compressing the foam.

I saw the foam insert tests. They claim the water resistant outer coating keeps it from soaking up sealant. It’s not as clear on at what pressure the foam is intended to expand and thereby affect tire stiffness.

Do they have data comparing 1:1 with and without foam inserts? I wasn’t aware of the tubeless ones until recently so I haven’t looked into the data.

How do they compare to tubeless? Vittoria is offering them for tubeless setups too, supposedly to reduce burping in MTB setups and road. It’s weird, I need to see more rolling resistance and tire stiffness comparison data to see if it impacts handling one way or the other.

The basic haptic feedback of real buttons is something that’s been worked on and refined over decades. In every metric that matters, buttons that confirm that they’ve been pushed are superior for non actively viewed controls.

BREAKING: The House passed the so-called SAVE America Act which threatens to upend our freedom to vote.

The bill could disenfranchise millions of eligible voters by requiring documents like passports or birth certificates to register to vote and forcing voter roll purges. The Senate must reject it.

Reminder that Starbucks’ CEO made 6,666x more than the company's median employee in 2024.

Now, Starbucks is lifting a cap on the CEO's use of a private jet to commute from California to Seattle.

It's been four years since Starbucks stores began unionizing and workers still don't have a contract.

I’m looking forward to the day all the atrocities of today are prosecuted in international court and our version of the Nuremberg trials. The concentration camps, the massive child sex tracking ring perpetrated and covered up by the most powerful billionaires, all perpetrators must be prosecuted.

Gallup and its chair, Jim Clifton, have long postured as non-partisan, but this move is a distinctly partisan in this environment.

Like so many other institutions, Gallup is destroying brand integrity in the service of fascism.
