I got my current work laptop 💻 n 2022. A System76 Lemur Pro. I just had to change the battery in it for the 2nd time. It will swell to the point where the track pad is nearly unusable. Let alone any fire concerns. Old and new pictured.

This could get us arrested (again), but some causes are worth the risk.

Web giant Cloudflare to block AI bots from scraping content by default Starting Tuesday, every new web domain that signs up to Cloudflare will be given the option to allow — or block — AI crawlers.

That's nice I guess, but the bots we are having problems with aren't identifying themselves as Bots at all. they just look like normal user browsers for the most part.

A chart of Request count and HTTP Responses. The requests jump up, then come back down. The 200 responses jump very high, but come down replaced by 400 responses.

I had a scheduled deploy for my new Bot Blocker module right after a DDoS attack started. I think the module is working.

I had to investigate a security alert for a website because the word "select" appeared in a POST request more than 3 times when someone was saving a node. Pretty sure half of the people going into cyber security are idiots.

Remember logging into a website, seeing a notification, and it was something that actually had something to do with you?

Well, I remember one was XKCD. Computing horror was another. But I just can't get in the habit of these again. While I hypocritically complain that the Internet has lost it's quirky charm.

I remember back in the day, I used to have a set of websites I'd check every morning. News, blogs, and web comics. I feel ashamed to admit that I basically only go to reddit now, and I can't even name the sites I used to visit.

I did not win.

I don't sit down and plan out an application with elaborate, comprehensive UML diagrams. But who does unless you are building a nuclear reactor management system?

I had to look up what "Vibe coding" was, because I didn't know if I've been doing it or now.

Ok, at a basic level it's non-devs asking AI to build apps for them. I certainly use AI a lot to write code for me, but I'm more than capable of debugging and improving the code it generates.

In the meantime, if you really want to quadruple your development time/costs, and limit the pool of developers who can maintain your site, by all means.

I'll believe headless infrastructure has any practical use when a menu for common paths that never change doesn't need 5 seconds to appear after page load.
