Americans take so much for granted, including the relative lack of corruption in politics up to now. Trump and Elon are the most visible, but it is going to permeate everything.

Obviously this is most stupid because the documents aren't about racial justice or other progressive ideas. But also it must be said -- diversity, equity, and inclusion ARE GOOD. It is not acceptable to just accept that DEI is bad! It is NOT.

So deeply stupid.

How is it cost-cutting to fire CFPB people who bring in more than they cost? Same with IRS? And none of this is well thought out -- it's just a buzz saw, destroying government functions for destruction's sake.

I shake my head as people actually think DOGE has identified waste, fraud and abuse in 5 days. What they are doing is gutting programs they don’t like according to Project 2025. They haven’t done any analysis and don’t even know the functions of the departments they are cutting.

None of it has anything to do with saving $ (CFPB & IRS make money) or efficiency -- just gutting of the government for its own sake. And the country as well, as a result. Many levels of grief.

Such a brutal week for feds, especially probationary feds like me. As hard as the stress is, in the end the job itself isn't the worst of it. Seeing science, education, and the rule of law gutted is actually worse.

Learned a few days ago that my job is relatively safe for now. A huge relief. When I paid my mortgage last week it felt like some kind of prayer.

More importantly, judges have authority over the administration! Chief Justice Roberts in Loper Bright: "Congress expects courts to do their ordinary job of interpreting statutes, with due respect for the views of the Executive Branch." If they disagree, amend the statute!

Federal employees bend over backwards to accommodate the White House -- that's what we are supposed to do. For people who actually say "no" there are real consequences. Will there be any support system for anyone who does so?

Is there any backup for federal employees who don't obey? We are the ones who will be fired with material consequences to our families.

Also calls into question the rule of law itself -- appropriations bills are LAWS. The money is supposed to be spent as Congress indicates!

Almost like a huge amount (majority?) of USAID's funding goes to farm states to purchase supplies from US farmers!

I want people to understand this.

For many of them, democracy ended when Obama was elected twice and Black Lives Matter rose to prominence.

This is them “fixing” a system that felt broken and newly unsafe to them.

Rule of law, education, science, and a professional civil service are the foundations of a healthy society.
