Why are you acting like the chain system is so inaccurate? It's not. And that has never been any sort of issue. Nobody is ever mad about the chains. They are mad because spotting the ball is impossible to do in real time on the field and therefore where the ref puts the ball is very inaccurate.

How do the chains not do a better job? They are set to an exact spot from the previous first down and you can easily see if the ball is 10 yards from there. The issue is people that aren't necessarily in a good position to see anything have to make a split second guess about ball placement.
