Personally I like something more in the middle. Like if the GM is going to have an increasing amount of undead in the series, let the pcs know so they don't create a pc that's totally useless.

On the flip side i've been in PBTA/FITD games where the GM prepared nothing and just responds to PC actions, which can sound cool but can have many flat moments while players make up their mind (or even get into analysis paralysis and second guessing-of NPC actions).

i think its a mix or spectrum not a binary choice. I've played in Pathfinder Adventure path where if you go off the main plot the GM does nothing, ignores your actions and just loads the next encounter. (Not that you have to run them that way, but some folks do).

i'm enjoying it, linear story at the start but it opens up
