This isn't just an abstract legal issue either. There have been real world damage to businesses across the board arising from these lies. Nils Skiwear is far from the only casualty here.

I feel a little sorry for the DOJ lawyers in these cases. They didn't make up these representations on their own, they were told what the government's position was and dutifully reported it to the courts. Now, they're the ones who will be crucified for lying to the courts.

This is a very well done report by Masha Gessen on the current state of affairs in Ukraine as it enters its fifth year under seige with no end in sight. It should be read.

I'll never forget the question that retired General Jim Mattis, then CENTCOM commander continually asked the hotshots in the Obama Administration who were trying to come up with a war plan for Iran, the one that eventually got him fired: "What happens then?" I don't think anyone is asking it now.

I don't know that it's the inequality itself. It seems like it might represent the scoreboard rather than the game. It seems like we need to correct the conditions that gave rise to the inequality rather than chopping down the scoreboard. If we do it right, the score will go down by itself.
