A few cells make the difference in monocyte interleukin release - Nature Immunology
Single-cell analysis shows that the release of interleukin-1Ξ² in human monocytes arises from a small subset of pyroptotic cells, rather than from non-canonical secretion pathways.
I kind of suspected this non-lytical IL-1b secretion by viable cells was BS...

"...So, the long-suspected βnon-canonicalβ secretion pathways, invoking unconventional secretion routes, atypical inflammasome regulation, are probably a misinterpretation artefact..."
