A photo of me holding a placard stating: Palestine Action Are Protesters Not Terrorists

If the police arrest me for this, it's a direct attack on the expression of opinion: ie on free speech. But the Terrorism Act is so madly oppressive and loosely framed that I have no idea which side of it I'm on. And I suspect it's the same for them.

Certainly true in this case :-) I suppose "a couple of cinemas decided not to show it rather than have Ted and Dougal outside with placards" doesn't get as many clicks as "IT WAS BANNED"

Down with this sort of thing.

BBC Two - The War Game Controversial film depicting the terrible consequences of a nuclear attack on Britain.

P.S. The "not just banned but wiped" The War Game is on BBC Four next Wednesday (followed by Threads, for the full post-apocalyptic experience)

Indeed - I'm fairly sure the commentary started off saying it was not just banned but wiped, then went on the say it was screened at festivals and won an academy award (I'm not going back to listen again!) It was premiered at the National Film Theatre in 1966, which is impressive for a banned film

The War Game - "shot in stark black and white" Erm, didn't the BBS make pretty much everything in stark black and white in 1965?

Lang employed poor malnourished children to play poor malnourished children, and apparently treated them well.

Arguably better than hiring chubby well-fed children and starving them.

The same writer (I use the word advisedly) also includes GWTW in his seminal work "10 Movies That Turned Out Great Despite Many Behind-the-Scenes Issues" of January 2025.
He can certainly churn it out.

This sentence is too long:
"Cleopatra stars the gorgeous Elizabeth Taylor as the legendary historical figure, who was Queen of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt from the years 51 to 30 BC, and the last known Hellenistic pharaoh."
I wrote sentences like that in school history essays when I was 12.

Farage got sacked from LBC in June 2020 πŸ™‚ There are rumours that he does something on GBNews, but as no sentient being has ever seen it to report back, this remains unproven. Some fuzzy footage exists, but like the programme it purports to show, it is largely regarded as a load of old cack.

There isn't much point in speculating how a LibDem/Lab coalition would have gone, but the Lib Dems got played, and I'm still not sure if Clegg was complicit or suckered.

How would you like it remembered? I remember it as Clegg selling out and making the party unelectable. I'm still a Lib Dem supporter, have a Lib Dem MP, and reckon that Davey is doing a pretty good job, but I'm not going to forgive Clegg squandering all that 2010 goodwill.
