I have a question, maybe stupid. I understand that Trump used extorted funds to pay for construction, but where is the budget for ongoing expenses coming from? Electricity, HVAC, staff, cleaning, etc.?

I told my wife in advance that I might only make it for 15 minutes, but I WAS showing up. I made it until 20 minutes before the end (crowds are one thing, traffic is another thing entirely), so today was a definite win.

My wife is Jewish, and I never, ever, ever want my grandkids, if I'm lucky enough to have any, to ask me what I did while this was happening and have my answer be "Nothing, because I was afraid of crowds."

I'm recovering from today. I'm borderline agoraphobic, and crowds like this make me really, really tense... But I was out, in the crowd (and damned proud of myself).

On the other hand, my wife and two adult children, who were out with me, ARE still psyched. It was amazing.

Ours was about the same, in Floyd, Virginia. Maybe 350 people. More solidarity than anything else, although the dude flipping us all off that was stuck at the traffic light with us singing "This Land Is Your Land" at him was hilarious. I saw one police officer, no issues.

I am a privileged, middle aged, middle class white man. I intend to take advantage of that fact while protesting. At this point in history, I feel like it's my DUTY to take advantage of that fact, on purpose for once.

That leaves room for angry independents (or, even, true conservatives disgusted by the current Republican party) to shift elections. It's a lot easier as a minority group to win a 55 - 45 district than a 70-30 district.

Good article. The answer is almost certainly yes, to SCOTUS rigging the House, but I'm an eternal optimist. I have hopes that an extreme gerrymander could backfire, since you have to shift liberal voters into Republican districts, leaving a smaller Republican majority in each (cracking).

Exactly. I think the crowdsourced numbers are a good effort -- but they're also not accurate, and I believe they badly underestimate more rural protests.

2/2 show ~ 50, and other locally posted images (I can share if needed) show that Rocky Mount was closer to 150. If these figures extend out to other "crowd sourced" locations, the totals (5-6 million) are off by a factor of 2-3. This lines up with ANPS estimates.

1/2 I have looked at the crowd sourced data, for the area immediately around me. Even looking at the pictures and videos from the cited source -- they are off by a factor of 2-3. Floyd, VA showed 101 -- it was closer to 250. Rocky Mount, VA showed 25, when the images cited clearly...
