New research from UBC shows that BC’s decision to cover birth control costs led to a nearly 50% rise in IUDs dispensed.

With an 11-6 final, the Coquitlam Adanacs seal first place against the Victoria Shamrocks! Playoffs start on Tuesday at The Palace on Poirier against the Maple Ridge Burrards .

The Korean War is often referred to as “Canada’s Forgotten War” in spite of the sacrifices made by over 26,000 members of the Canadian Armed Forces. Canada suffered over 1500 casualties with 516 Canadians losing their lives.

On July 27th we honour the sacrifice and service of those who fought in the Korean War. It is on this day in 1953 that the armistice was signed, ending three years of devastating conflict on the Korean Peninsula.

BC is knocking down trade barriers with both Provinces and Territories.

Yesterday we made a trade deal with Ontario, today it was Manitoba and The Yukon.

This will help create a path for interprovincial trade, while ensuring our workers are protected.

Along with our changes, the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons is moving toward bylaw changes to allow internationally trained doctors from some jurisdictions to obtain a licence here easier and more quickly.

Our government is making it easier than ever for internationally-trained doctors to bring their skills to B.C.

We are implementing a four cornerstone approach of retention, redesign, recruitment, and training in order to relieve our #healthcareprofessional shortage.

In 1867 the governors of British Columbia and Vancouver Island colonies wrote to London to ask that the British North America Act contain a provision that would permit them entry into Canada. One of the reasons for the urgency was their fear of annexation after the US purchased Alaska.

Yesterday was exactly 154 years since British Columbia be came the sixth province to join Canada.

BC is leading the country in aligning with international human rights law under the UN, thanks to our government’s commitment to address and work to unravel discrimination across the Province.

We even had the Human Rights Commissioner Kasari Govendar at our committee meeting this morning so we could hear about the work the BCOHRC had been undertaking.

Another week of committee work down. Started with Finance and Government Services and ended with Reviewing the Provisions of the Human Rights Code.
