February is a time to honor the generations of Black Americans who fought, and continue to fight, against injustice to achieve equal rights.

May we reflect on our nation’s past as we continue working to build a society that lives up to its democratic ideals.

As we mark 100 years of celebrating Black history, let’s honor the sacrifices of the leaders who came before us, and recommit ourselves to continuing their work.

Black History Month is a time to recognize the lived, shared experience of all Black folks who have fundamentally shaped, challenged, and ultimately strengthened America. It’s about taking an unvarnished look at the past so that we can create a better future.

A large crowd gathered for a vigil for Alex Pretti at the Minneapolis Veterans Medical Center on Feb. 1. It was part of an organized effort, with other candlelight vigils held in cities across the U.S.

After 9 days, Hennepin County medical examiner classifies Alex Pretti’s death as β€˜homicide’ Homicide means the death came at the hands of another person and does not necessarily mean the person died from a criminal act.

The disclosure noted that Pretti suffered β€œmultiple gunshot wounds” from law enforcement and died that day at HCMC. Otherwise, it offered no further specifics from the autopsy.

I went on Fox News yesterday morning to explain that while the focus is on Minneapolis, Trump is trampling rights everywhere. All over the country, thousands of LEGAL immigrants, including little kids, are being disappeared.

That's what happens in Putin's Russia, not America.

This is the facility I was denied entry to a week ago - even though I'm the top Democrat on the committee that funds DHS and I gave them plenty of notice.

I told you they were hiding something. They were.

The ICE surge has disrupted business. Minnesota’s top economic official is β€˜very concerned.’ In an interview, DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek spoke at length about how ICE is affecting businesses and making the job of growing the state’s economy more difficult.

Trump’s campaign of retribution is costing our small businesses their livelihoods and doing long-term damage to Minnesota’s economy.

A tranquil winter scene unfolds in this horizontal photograph, capturing a moment of stillness and natural beauty on a partially frozen body of water.

The composition is dominated by the reflective surface of the water and ice, which mirrors the soft, warm light of the low sun. In the foreground, three large birds command attention. To the right, a majestic mute swan, its plumage a brilliant white, stands gracefully on the edge of the ice, its reflection perfectly mirrored in the dark, open water beneath it. Its orange bill contrasts sharply with its white feathers. To the left of the swan are two others, one with mottled brown and grey feathers which is actively stepping onto the ice, its posture dynamic as it navigates the slippery surface, while the other stands more centrally, looking toward the swan.
The water surface itself is a mosaic of smooth, dark blue open water and patches of thin, translucent ice, creating interesting textures and patterns across the frame. The reflections of the birds are elongated and slightly distorted by the gentle ripples and the ice, adding depth and a sense of calm movement to the scene. In the middle ground, further back on the water, several smaller white birds, likely gulls, and a few ducks can be seen swimming or resting, adding context to the scale of the environment. The background is composed of a natural, undulating landscape. Rolling hills covered in dormant, brown, and rust-coloured vegetation rise gently behind the water. The bare branches of deciduous trees and the dark green of evergreens line the banks.
The sky above the hills is a soft gradient of pale yellow, orange, and light blue sunset, bathing the entire landscape in a gentle, warm peaceful light.
The overall atmosphere of the image is one of quiet serenity and natural harmony, capturing the stark, yet beautiful, contrast between the cold environment and the warm light. The image has a painterly quality, with a shallow depth of field.
