You guys i don't know how else to tell you this, I thought TRON ARES was kind of pretty sick.

It was very validating to talk to @colonelmortimer.bsky.social about THE SMASHING MACHINE because we're similarly befuddled about the choice to make a fake version of an existing documentary.

Reading a bunch of reviews of this and it's pretty amazing how much of them credit Safdie with its construction (positively or negatively). Like I'm sorry but I'd suggest that 70-80% of it is cribbed entirely from the doc.

I don't want to say I didn't like THE SMASHING MACHINE but I remain completely confused as to why you'd tell basically the exact same story as a very good documentary and shoot it like a documentary. Anyway I think the Hyams original is the superior work.

I see a couple of DocFest screenings in 35...which, ok, great! But doesn't explain the general lack of prints at SIFF, especially at Cinerama.

Is that advertised anywhere? Which ones?
