05.08.2025 06:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I also do not understand why they plugged the story about CTA funding cliff in here? The funding cliff does not have much to do with the proposed improvements to the rail. Naturally, if there is no funding there is less trains and less noise.

03.08.2025 19:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The linked article here directs to the July 30th article about the operational budget funding cliff. I am not sure what is being said here by linking this in with funding for capital project like RPM @blockclubchi.bsky.social
02.08.2025 03:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Can you even drink on Metra anymore? Every time I take it from Millennium Park I see those "No drinking" signs outside the station.
19.07.2025 17:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0There is also a Water Taxi stop there. It is a part of my go-to recommendation for a touristy day in Chicago: spend some time in the loop->walk around the riverwalk->take the water taxi to Chinatown->have a nice lunch in the plaza->take L to Hyde Park->see the university->MSI->take metra to loop
18.07.2025 06:32 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I have noticed that it is absent from most of the online conversations about food in Chicago. Maybe it's because most of the online Chicago people are on the Northside.
18.07.2025 06:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Does anyone have a write-up/deep dive on Johnson shutting out the movement? I would love to learn more about this.
17.07.2025 21:06 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Cedars is a quite good middle eastern place. Great taste and value on the lunch special. I believe they also host a monthly standup for charity.
5 Rabanitos opened a location here too. Quite good, a bit expensive.
In my opinion, the food is a bit mediocre here (excluding their breakfast menu). But the patio, coffee, and free sparkling water are quite good.

08.07.2025 23:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I didn't get the animosity with which some have responded to that Slate article! The author praised Zohran's other transit policies and raised some valid points about free fares.

09.06.2025 18:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Is there anywhere we could watch the pilot in full? From the trailer alone, I do not see as much similarity other than that both stories are about sex workers.
06.03.2025 05:19 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I agree. Even by the logic of the "true unemployment rate" that the article talks about, Biden seems to have achieved the lowest rate in the last 40 years
12.02.2025 19:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0still, the statistic was at its lowest in the last year, as you can see here www.lisep.org/tru.
The time series you can see here is still supportive of the economy being better than under Obama, Trump, Bush, Clinton.
Time series comparing True Rate of Unemployment, as defined by LISEP, and the U-3 unemployment rate
there are genuine issues with how the statistic is presented though without any historic context. If you check it, you will see that the βfunctional unemploymentβ rate was in fact at its lowest recorded point last year
12.02.2025 18:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Excerpt of the politico article that the original post is referring to. The text reads "I donβt believe those who went into this past election taking pride in the unemployment numbers understood that the near-record low unemployment figures β the figure was a mere 4.2 percent in November β counted homeless people doing occasional work as βemployed.β But the implications are powerful. If you filter the statistic to include as unemployed people who canβt find anything but part-time work or who make a poverty wage (roughly $25,000), the percentage is actually 23.7 percent. In other words, nearly one of every four workers is functionally unemployed in America today β hardly something to celebrate."
I am not making a judgment on whether the article is correct or not. Just pointing out this specific point. The graph above was taken from here: www.lisep.org/tru
12.02.2025 04:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I see some people referencing the "23% of the workforce is functionally unemployed" statistic and the framing seems a bit disingenuous. While the number may be high, if you check their historical reporting you will see that it was much higher before and reached its minimal value with Biden.
