The new restoration definitely looks better. A movie can look "dark" without having all the detail destroyed by crushed blacks.

As someone who had a lot of performance issues with previous games in this series I'm just inclined to disagree, sorry. Judgment on the PS4 was absolutely the low point for performance in this series, the Amon fight wasn't even playable. I'm not a hater, I liked the stories so I kept playing.

I don't need their description though because the demo is out and I can tell you firsthand that it just performs as questionably as every other game made in this engine, not really any better or worse. It feels like you're more mad at me for criticizing K2 than for anything to do with K3.

I mean the demo is out, everyone knows how it looks & performs. I don't know what kind of hardware that reviewer is running but these games have never been optimized very well. Go boot up Yakuza 6 on a PS4 and tell me about how buttery smooth walking around Kamurocho feels. It's rose-tinted glasses.

Kiwami 2 and Yakuza 6 on the PS4 couldn't even consistently hit 30fps in most areas. The engine just isn't very good.

I mean I don't know what specs the reviewer's PC has, but the other Dragon Engine games gave me terrible performance on the PS4. Even on the PS5 Infinite Wealth started to struggle in certain areas. It's just always been this way.

If we're talking art direction I do think Kiwami 3 looks drastically worse than the original Y3, but it doesn't look much different from Kiwami 2 or even Infinite Wealth. I've never completely liked how the Dragon Engine games look.

I don't think the reviewer actually has much technical knowledge considering their use of the word "remastering" when talking about the background NPCs (which are recycled in every Dragon Engine game). They do look like shit but they always have.

Nah performance and physics in the Dragon Engine games were notoriously always wonky. NPCs who aren't main characters look like shit in every Yakuza game. I think all that's happening here is the Kagawa scandal ended the honeymoon period this series had going on.

I don't know why anyone would ever play these games with an English dub, Yong Yea has been a bad voice actor since he was cast a few years ago.

Kiwami 2's reviewers were way too charitable and Sega should really release a remaster of the original Yakuza 2. Kiwami 2 was always mediocre at best.

Idk kinda the same problems Kiwami 2 had though. That game cut dozens of substories, cut minigames, swapped out the music for lamer music, and most of the side content was just recycled minigames from Y6 and Y0.

The only big thing that distinguishes K3 from K2 is they shouldn't have cast Kagawa.

It's just doing the same stuff the other two did idk. I'm not expecting it to be good but this has been the trend. Pirate Yakuza felt like one of the biggest cash grabs I've ever seen.

People are way too keen to judge this before it's even out. I didn't like Saltburn's ending much but Fennell is still clearly a true auteur with a unique voice and ideas and I'm excited to see her career develop. 21st century film has been far too dominated by the MCU and Netflixslop Fincher clones.

To me the most egregious Kiwami thing isn't anything with K3 but actually the Majima Everywhere stuff in K1. Some of the scenes were funny I guess but it really profoundly ruined the atmosphere of that game as well as Majima's characterization and role in the story.

I said that the other two Kiwami games are the worse versions so obviously I agree with you, I'm just confused about why people are only catching on now. I've opposed this game getting a remake since before any of the drama, but back then everyone was really demanding it.

This isn't really new, Kiwami 2 also cut most of Y2's substories. The Kiwami remakes before this were both already worse versions of the games they were remaking with cut content, cut areas, altered music, redesigned characters, etc.

Kiwami 1 & 2 are worse versions of the games they're based on too so this really isn't surprising to me. I'm a huge fan of Y3 and always argued that it didn't need a remake. People who struggled with the combat just needed to try something other than mindless button mashing.

Pretty cool! Considering how affordable their sales are I've always felt that they do an excellent job with the presentation and authoring of their titles. They're the type of company where I'm happy to support them by taking blind swings on series I've never even heard of.

I hope so! I will probably be buying this either way when it's on sale because it's a classic that I haven't seen and the box art looks lovely at least.
