I had not thought of this but it tracks with my experience being queer.

Am I disabled? Is your nephew who doesn't talk and yells if he has to put on clothes? Who cares. I contribute as I can, I receive care I need, and so do kids.

From each according to ability, to each according to need. They do not have to balance for the individual. They balance at scale.

EVENTUALLY we run out of resources for everything we want, but we are not near that point yet if we keep our wants moderate, and it is possible to build ourselves as part of working ecosystems.

Nazis start defining everything they don't like as a "drain on society" but no. There is no such thing. Society doesn't have gravity pulling it into any hole. There is unhealthy accumulation to deal with the threat of scarcity, otherwise there's helping each other as best we can.

Humans can exist as individuals but that is not our natural state, not is exploiting each other in weird status games. That is a hobby. Fundamentally we are here to keep each other safe.

Like literally. You were born a helpless baby. An adult cared for you. Other adults made that possible. That is society. We get all complicated about it but that's it. We take care of each other as best we can.
