we've got some particularly nasty weather incoming this evening, but this morning the harbour was weirdly flat despite some pretty good gusts.

i was enchanted by the wind chasing itself across the surface, and the busker playing guitar.

i figure it's only a matter of time before another round of "i have a great idea! let's close USUHS!" starts up, this time with bonus "their graduates are ALSO far too woke" content.

the finished painting, a meadow with poppies in the foreground and little dots of red poppies in the background. i'm not happy with the poppy stalks, although the flowers themselves a pretty good. i used to have a poppy bed and am probably too familiar with their thick, furry stalks and wider leaves - details that i should not have tried to incorporate here in this hazy, soft-focus scene.

i'm generally happier with this than yesterday's effort. i switched from canson paper to fabriano; it's toothier than the canson and i found it easier for the wet on wet technique.

seagulls are opportunistic predators and it was hanging around to see if it could turn the newborn into a meal.

a tube of winsor green on a green-streaked white paper towel. the tube has been cut down one flat side and the cut edges retracted, revealing the remains of the drying paint. the winsor green was thick and gummy, and i had to scrape it out of the opened tube. i need to find a palette knife or something for this type of operation - the scraper-tool-thingy from my manicure kit was adequate for the job, but not great.

a tube of chrome green light, the cap still on, lies on a white paper towel. the tube has been twisted around its equator, and is peeled open, revealing its contents. the chrome green light was completely dried and chunky, so the tube broke easily when i twisted it.

my grandfather was a bench scientist at hopkins and then NIH from the 40s through the 50s. i remember him telling me what a miracle the salk vaccine was, and how grateful he was to take his kids to work to get vaccinated.

The motion to reconsider the scheduling order is denied.
