A ribbed hand knit hat in a blue-grey colour against a floral background.

Just a hat. It reminded me of how I used to love knitting before a repetitive stress injury made me stop. I’m careful now about how much I knit in one session. I savour each stitch.

Your shawl is gorgeous!

It’s really sad that Ana is closing her shop. I hope she’ll be back in some form or other someday. I loved spinning her batts. I scooped a bunch of them when she announced her shop would be closing.

Can I make a suggestion? Wind the ball twice, and use a TP core over your ball winder. The first wind will have more tension but the second will be more relaxed, which makes for fewer barfglobs from the centre.

I’m very sorry for your loss, Jay.

A collage showing a finished 2 ply worsted weight yarn at the top left and bottom right. The yarn is grey with speckles of blue, yellow and a little red.

At the lower left is the carded batts from which the yarn was spun.

The upper right shows the spinning in progress. The fibre has been spun onto a bobbin on a spinning wheel. A foot on the spinning wheel treadle and a beige carpet is in the background.

A collage depicting handspun yarn in stages of progress. The yarn is primarily pink with areas of gold and green and some purple. At the bottom left is the fibre used to spin the yarn. It has been braided and formed into a circle. At the top right are the singles on bobbins held in my hand with the leaves of a houseplant as background. The two singles are then plied together to make the finished yarn.

The finished yarn wrapped in a one inch notch on a wraps per inch tool. The tool is made of wood and is held in my hand. In the background are the green leaves of a houseplant. Wraps per inch (WPI) are used to measure how many wraps there are to an inch. This gives an indication of how the yarn will knit or crochet up and what size needles or hooks to use.

The spun and plied yarn on a wraps per inch measuring tool. The tool is made of wood and has a one inch gap at the top. The handspun rust coloured yarn is wrapped within the one inch notch to give a wraps per inch measurement. The wraps per inch, or WPI, gives us an idea of the grist of the yarn and the gauge it will knit or crochet at. The WPI tool is being held in my hand and there are green leaves and carpet in the background.

Yarn spam day 5 is Mushroom Hunt dyed by Meaghan @bramble_ridge on 75% BFL/25% Masham. The Masham content makes this yarn more elastic than drapey and a little more rustic and lofty too.
