The designer Jean Dessés was born on this day in 1904. Perhaps less well known now compared to some of his mid century contemporaries, his legacy is one of particular skill around unusual draping. This early #1950s evening dress is a testament to his artistry #V&A #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Rolags from the lovely black (actually dark coffee brown) and white fleece. This is very much an experiment with some colour added. Using a new spinning wheel to spin it with the aim of making a soft snuggley cowl.

And there's the pink batt spun and knitted into hand/wrist warmers. Since my accident I've become conscious of keeping my hands warm.
There's some design flaws, and I'll do the next pair differently but atm these are warm and snuggly.

I've spun the pink batt 😁
It had lots if lively colours and lumpy bits (mainly chunks of possum fur). I didn't want to flatten the texture or the colour, so the lumpy bits stayed intact. My long draw is not much chop so that added more unevenness. But it is soft and warm so mission accomplished.

So my #TourdeFleece plans have crashed and burned 😒 But I did manage to escape the house yesterday 😁 Got a batt with possum to knit some wrist warmers and a chance to share time with others who understand the somewhat esoteric joy of black and white Polwarth fleece.

I did some spinning this morning to kick start TdF and continue to be disappointed I can only do it for short periods of time 😞 The slight rotation makes my forearm muscles ache. It's better if I can rest my arm so I see a cushion-making project on the horizon

Argh Tour de Fleece starts tomorrow and I haven't had a chance to even prepare anything to spin 😱 Might do a last-minute wash today and hope it gets dry (in the cold, wet weather 😒).

Silk taffeta evening dress in black. It is sleeveless and strapless, with a hand-painted design of flying-cranes (in gold and white) on the skirt. The underskirt has a red wadded hem. At the midriff there is a foot-wide gathering of the black dress fabric, resembling a large rose.

There's a lot to love here. The beautiful hand-painted cranes give the dress a sense of life and movement. The rose gathering pulls the eye to the centre, only to be distracted by the red hem. A work of art.

I'm not sure yet but it will be about 3 ply. It usually fluffs up when it's dressed because it's a fine merino. I'll post the finished product when it's done.

Finished spinning and plying my green and blue. All that plying is a mission with a bung elbow and shoulder but it's done. No idea what to do with it, I just needed the bobbins for another project.

Last experiment - the unwashed East Friesian blended with the also unwashed Romney/Polwarth. I don't normally spin unwashed wool but thought I should just complete the set. Next up: spinning them.

The second experiment. These fluffy wee things were dizzed off mini-combs. The base yarn is East Friesian/Perendale which has been blended with a lovely Romney/Polwarth cross.

My first attempt at dizzing a roving off a blending board 😁 Needs work. Now to spin it and see how it goes. I'm trying to blend two fibres of very different staple lengths so not sure where this will end up 🤔

I'm wearing black stretchy pants with ankle cuffs and slash pockets.

Still wearing them, but straight now instead of posed.

Made these #greenstylebrooklynjogger pants and they stitched up very quickly on the overlocker. I got a very overcut remnant of stretch french Terry that's enough for at least two more pairs of pants. A bargain. Lounging pants for everyone.
