We collectively need to stop referring to the Alberta Energy Regulator as “seen by many as a captured agency” and just say “a captured agency.”

Same goes for police boards that have demonstrated their capture time and time again.

As Alberta landowner Dwight Popowich asks, "If conflict of interest rules can be sidestepped through consultancy contracts, what good are they?" Oil & gas polluters need to clean up their messes and pay their bills -- both what they owe landowners, and their grossly overdue taxes. #abpoli #ableg

They throw “good will money” around to gain social trust when what is going on behind the scenes of what they are doing to people living by this or the environment is beyond disgusting

I don’t see many politicians or AER board members who live 24/7 by this unregulated infrastructure, yet they get to make the rules for the poor people who do.

the little companies run their wells on the cheap, the AER doesn’t enforce the rules on them because they don’t want to “create financial strain” on them and who cares if they are poisoning the landowner.

The whole world had restrictions! somehow they pick and choose who to be angry with. Even Trump had restrictions but yet no one talks about that.

lots of dead birds by venting oil wells. I see it all the time. it shocks me we don’t throw these oil companies in jail for venting straight gas As it kills people too.

I know I say this way to much but the way Alberta has copied the problems with emissions and blind loyalty to oil and gas to the detriment of people is wildly uncanny.

Sooner or later Albertans are going to have to decide if they love O&G workers or O&G corporations
Because it can't be both when the corporations are screwing over and laying off their workers

There is so many better uses for taxpayer money than paying for oil and gas cleanup bill. Our health care is on the brink of collapse- some rural ER’s dont have on call doctors at times.

I know of some oil companies actively poisoning people…if they need something to do why don’t they arrest them for attempted murder.

not dealing with toxic emissions is creating a health crisis, yet because of oil lobbyists no one seems to care about all the people and animals being poisoned

Alberta oil producers also don’t like to pay to clean up their mess…so taxpayers better pay attention as the government it purposing to put those costs onto the Alberta taxpayer

Wow- it‘s never a very long trail of bread crumbs to find the old Wildrose corruption- the AER is proof of that

Is Strathcona Resources where all scum bags come from...seeing as the head of the AER is also recently from Strathcona Resources?

Wow! Well done piece, many similarities to Alberta Canada. Profits over people. The regulators not enforcing the laws need to go to jail as peoples lives are being shortened

Open-source model more accurately measures greenhouse gas emissions from natural gas McGill engineering researchers have introduced an open-source model that makes it easier for experts and non-experts alike to evaluate greenhouse gas emissions from U.S. natural gas supply chains and ...

When we get more quantification of methane emissions from oil and gas the numbers are never good. That is because methane is invisible and its an easy crime to get away with.

"results were anywhere from 23% lower to 316% higher than methane estimates typically used in LCAs"

Could a high TPO blood test be from prolonged exposure from living by 2 venting oil wells? They both vent all excess gas off, you can smell it gassing out the crude oil tank. The thyroid tests would periodically show up on blood work now it seems to be all the time.

Can never repost this 2025 finding enough:

91,000 deaths EVERY YEAR in the United States are caused by air pollution from oil and gas.

That’s 250 funerals a day

That’s the human sacrifice required for running our economy via extracting and burning fossilized Devonian corpses

You good with that?
