After the L.A. Wildfires, a Race to Save the Tiles, and the Soul, of Altadena Salvage experts are rushing to save handmade tiles from fireplaces that survived the Eaton fire before they are demolished.

Several dozen fireplaces with historic, handmade tiles were left standing more or less intact after the Eaton fire tore through Altadena, California. A group of neighbors, masons and other volunteers are racing to salvage them. “We’re in a battle for the soul of the place.”
