A 13-year-old boy was arrested by ICE in Everett and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.
The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.
“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.
From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.
The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.
ICE kidnapped a 7th-grader with a pending asylum claim and spirited him out of state without notifying his parents, seemingly with the cooperation of the local police in Everett, MA.

You can like wrenching on your ride and taking road trips and still think that pedestrian safety outweighs urban speediness.

Not because the money would likely be corruptingly big; most local entrepreneurs barely break even or eventually shut down before an exit. The thing is the principle of it: 5/

I would dearly like to see a reporter hold Harrell’s feet to the fire as to how many equity or equity-like (profit share, success fee, etc) arrangements he acquired during his public service tenure. 4/

Having heard this during a time when I advised numerous entrepreneurs about how carefully to allocate every percent of their company’s equity, I was disgusted.

It’s rumored in town that when approached by aspiring entrepreneurs, then-council member Harrell instead would say something like, “well you need a big shot mentor, so cut me in for X% of your business” 2/

Seattle mayor Bruce Harrell was cited in the South Seattle Emerald saying he told entrepreneurs who came to him for help, “The fact is, we live in a meritocracy… So instead of always saying, 'Give me this, give me that,' be the best that you can be first."
Except that’s not what he does. 1/

The idea that equity gets residual profits but only after being in the first loss position has a balance to it that a lot of folks can get behind. But the idea that you can just accelerate any or all profits without risk or responsibility, and alienate them sans recourse, should have some limit.

The main problem with the whole affair isn’t the acquiring or the leverage part, even. It’s the cashing out to equity holders with limited liability and leaving everyone else - employees, customers, unsecured creditors, polluted streams - holding the bag.

I really do try to buy from publishers, but it’s also the year 2025 and there is a minimal level of avoidance of customer-hostile behaviors that e-commerce vendors need to have as the market standard. Good reco BTW

States could also just let pharmacists prescribe and dispense all medications, with specific exceptions, instead of making politically charged carve outs on a one off basis. Like, you know, in most civilized countries.

Honest q: when a city has two NPR affiliates, and it was already a bit dicey as to having both be funded, how do you choose who gets to be the face of “saving” local public radio? Kind of non trivial. Jazz heads vs the Prairie Homies.

Honestly check eBay for some Japanese pre owned Yamaha brass. Even with shipping you can get a practice grade horn for 1/2 of what it might fetch in a used music store in the USA and there are surprisingly well rated sellers that are trustworthy on this trade.

Whatever happens in the streets, or in the backwoods hollers, the only thing that really matters is to whom the primary dealers send China’s money after the auction. Be the coalition that China and JPM agree are most governmentish and you’ve won.

We need an interstate compact on anti-gerrymandering similar to the electoral / popular vote compact. If blue states are going to respond to the Texas attack with counterattacks, they should also create the compact as an offramp.

Honest question, are people who are giving AIs shell access bothering to run it under a restricted UID? Or are you letting the AI run with the same UID as owns your mbox, ssh keys, sudoers privs, etc?
