I left Belfast 18 years ago today. I genuinely remember it like it was yesterday. 2008, a financial crash, no one had any money, no one was employing and the world was a little mad.

Frame 2: Dad, who's prepping to ride his mountain bike, says, "Sure! 'Cyclists have a right to the road too, you noisy, polluting, inconsiderate maniacs! I hope gas goes up to eight bucks a gallon!'" Frame 3: Calvin, walking away, says, "Thanks, Dad. I'll go ask Mom." Dad responds from out-of-frame, "Why? That's a great slogan!"

Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson, one of the greatest comic strips of all time, was born on this day, November 18, 1985 -- December 31, 1995.

And Calvin's dad remains a beacon of inspiration to cyclists everywhere.
