David Hasslehoff once played me in a movie, I also play guitar and have toured with Van Morrison. All above statements are true but the last 2 may be unrelated.

I left Belfast 18 years ago today. I genuinely remember it like it was yesterday. 2008, a financial crash, no one had any money, no one was employing and the world was a little mad.

A little.

Now look at us...

Calvin and Hobbes comic strip. In frame one Calvin opens a door and says, "Hey Dad, I'm doing a traffic safety poster. Do you have any ideas for a slogan?" Frame 2: Dad, who's prepping to ride his mountain bike, says, "Sure! 'Cyclists have a right to the road too, you noisy, polluting, inconsiderate maniacs! I hope gas goes up to eight bucks a gallon!'"
Frame 3: Calvin, walking away, says, "Thanks, Dad. I'll go ask Mom." Dad responds from out-of-frame, "Why? That's a great slogan!"

Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson, one of the greatest comic strips of all time, was born on this day, November 18, 1985 -- December 31, 1995.

And Calvin's dad remains a beacon of inspiration to cyclists everywhere.

Our education system isn't working.

Natasha Devon breaks down exactly how we got here in tomorrow's episode of Bold Politics with Zack Polanski.

A production in Belfast once had it set in modern times but a Victorian urchin appeared in the aisle for Ebenezer to shout his list of demands to on Christmas morning.

He listened dutifully before replying in broad Belfast accent.

"F*** away off."

Brought the house down and my English Mrs howled.

Fresh lemons can deter cats from urinating on your lawn but it largely depends on how good your aim is.

I wouldn't say bombarded exactly but definitely there.

Always welcome.

Even if I have heard the, "My Cocaine," story 100 times before.

There's something about taking, "THE," photo.

I mean, you know you can crop it afterwards or use the crappy digital zoom that effectively does the same thing but you look at something, you know the shot you want but know the phone won't see it that way.

My phone also stays in my pocket a lot too.

Sad to say they'll find a way.

Worked with a guy once that was unashamedly racist. I chatted to him, civilly trying to unpack his distrust and he said to me,

"Oh you can give me all the reasons in the world to not do but I just don't like them."

Crying shame that people have already given up.

Note the exchange about giving substantive short answers to clear questions, rather than equivocating with a PR-style line to take - which audiences can now see straight through.

If at least 26 billionaires can waste at least $27 million trying to defeat Zohran Mamdani, then those same billionaires can afford to pay an extra 2% on their income over $1 million to make New York a better, thriving city for everyone β€” including themselves.

There is ample evidence that privatized public services are strangling households and extracting obscene profits off citizens. And there's shit in your water.
