Wow?!

BBC News homepage has just significantly downgraded the placing of its "Climate" section on its menu bar

Climate is now ranked last, lower than Tech.

Earlier this month "Climate" was ranked above World, UK, US&Canada, Business and Tech

British media โ€˜divorcingโ€™ net zero from climate change, finds analysis Researchers warn that net zero has become politicised by populists as โ€œshorthandโ€ for attacking climate policy.

Fair & accurate media reporting is vital if we are to ensure the public understands why net zero exists.

At the very least, articles covering net zero could briefly explain that scientists say net zero is essential for stopping climate change.

Hopefully newspapers can step up to the plate in 2026โ€ฆ

You might expect public understanding of net zero to have improved since it became law - but widespread confusion remains.

A recent @climatebarometer.bsky.social survey found 22% wrongly thought net zero meant โ€˜producing no carbon emissions at allโ€™ - rising to 41% amongst Reform UK supporters.

23.12.2025 16:32 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Back in 2018, 90% of UK national newspaper articles referring to net zero also mentioned climate change. By 2024, that number had fallen to 42%.

Four articles last year (in the Express & Telegraph) referred to net zero a total of eight times - but included no mention of climate change at all.

NEW: joint @eciu.net & @reutersinstitute.bsky.social research finds the link between the problem of climate change, and its solution of net zero, is quietly being severed.

While support for tackling climate change remains popular, the necessary response gets demonised. ๐Ÿงต

Errors include:

- โ€œgreen jobs are down by 28,000 since 2014โ€ (green jobs have risen every year since 2020)
- Miliband wishes to ban all new oil & gas boilers within a decadeโ€ (heโ€™s on the record saying he wonโ€™t)
- saying heat pumps are 2x as likely to break down as gas boilers (stat is invented)

๐ŸšจRare defeat for climate misinformation๐Ÿšจ

Until recently, Lois Perry (ex-UKIP leader, now head of climate denial think tank Heartland) had a regular Express column promoting climate scepticism to 1000s of readers.

After a string of embarrassing inaccuracies, her column appears to have been dropped.

There is aย Clean Heat Market Mechanism, which places an obligation on manufacturers of gas boilers to meet targets for the installation of heat pumps in proportion to their sales of gas boilers. This scheme *does not ban gas heating systems*.

Embarrassing error from Juliet Samuel in the Times, writing: "gas heating bans will destroy boiler manufacturing".

Except there is no gas heating ban of any kind, nor plans for any.

Glad the inaccuracy has now been corrected - shame it happened in the first place.

The Telegraph is now having to publish so many corrections to articles where it attempts to find *any angle whatsoever* to attack net-zero polices that it makes sense to start tracking them here.

These are the ones published since Labour won the election.
