Fuel share for residential and non-residential heating demand (%)
Itโll vary by country - that might be true in countries which massively depend on gas for heating. (Gas supplies >50% heating demand in ๐ณ๐ฑ, ๐ฌ๐ง, ๐ฎ๐น, ๐ญ๐บ,๐ง๐ช, ๐จ๐ฆ.)
But in countries where gas usage for heating is more marginal, I imagine it will be more rapidly impacted by reduced gas usage forโก๏ธ generation.
One Q suggested by EG's research: what does the diesel industry look like when most vehicles are EVs? Who produces it & how much does it cost? I wonder that about a lot of petroleum products that are cheap because they rely on an enormous gasoline supply chain. Liquid fuels might get more precious.

Her latest paper contemplates the "minimum viable scale" for such systems before they collapse.
Got Qs?

A great chart for showing the regional economic drivers for electrification of transport, heating and industry, and adoption of renewables.
High importers have the most to gain in near term economics.
However, the whole planet looses if we don't move as fast as we can in all regions.

HDI increases with energy use to a point, then saturates. The US is twice as far to the right on energy use per person as the "kink point" where energy use stops influencing HDI. The UK and Switzerland are near the kink point, using about half the per-capita energy of the US, but have better health and education outcomes.
The United States uses about twice as much energy per person as Switzerland or the UK. The US also has worse public health and life expectancy. Few countries use more energy per person than the US. Most of them are, like the US, petrostates.

3. Barack Obama was the first exception to the above.

I am wildly unqualified to assess the technical claims here, but at least on the surface this looks plausible, and if it's true, there are still *enormous* efficiencies to be found in chip design & many of the hysterical forecasts for future energy demand are way off.
