Some Facts on the Department of Education because even the president seems to have no idea what they do

This is a very helpful explainer about what the federal Dept of Education does. (Short answer: it’s not state curricular guidance.) #EduSky

Do you know what happens when graduate student funding is cut? Often, it means we ALL miss out on their new, promising ideas bc the project doesn’t go forward.

Getting a grant like this is incredible! I’m so sorry this happened to you, Megan. Sorry for all of us who could have benefited.

I want to reiterate something you said, because it's deadly serious: No matter what you think of what Khalil said and did, he was charged with no crime. He was given no notice. He was simply taken from his home and disappeared.
And we have to be really, really afraid when there isn't even an attempt on the part of government lawyers to say there was a crime-when, instead, they simply hang everything on a dusty old statute and a dubious claim that we think he's dangerous to the United States.
Because if they're coming for that, they're coming for all of us.

With @dahlialithwick.bsky.social on the many implicationsβ€”all horrifyingβ€”of the Trump administration reviving seemingly unconstitutional Red Scare–era laws to abduct and disappear Mahmoud Khalil, without due process, in retaliation against his protected speech. slate.com/news-and-pol...

This is who was fired from the union workforce at the Department of Education yesterday. Every single number is a person who served the nation and whose life was wrongly disrupted. That's the first tragedy, but it's clearly not the only one.

We will have influenza vaccines for next season! But what happened?

Here’s another win, from our favorite allergist @rubinallergy.bsky.social

We will have a flu vaccine for next season!!! There was a lot of concern that it wasn’t gonna happen but a meeting was held and they did decide which strains to target

So bravo to the amazing fighters who made this happen

Every time you see what sounds like a wild claim about woke research, you can assume a) it will fall apart under the most basic of inspection, b) the person making the claim will never be held accountable for lying, and c) it is a cover to gut useful research that we benefit from.

The final vote: 51-45, with 4 people absent.

CLOTURE FAILS, A CONGRESSIONAL SPORTS BAN WILL NOT HAPPEN.

Democrats hold firm, not a single dem voted for cloture.

MAJOR victory for everyone who called in today and this week in support of trans people.

Our research is currently focused on NH, learning about one state's landscape. (Though we do hope to expand in future years.)

We are hoping to hear from NH paraeducators, classroom teachers, specialists, and/or school administrators. Please also share with colleagues in your building/district!

Help improve literacy support! The Paraeducator Experience Project is conducting a research study (UNH IRB: IRB-FY2025-73) to better understand how paraeducators support learners & teachers. NH paras & educators, we'd love your input: ~10 mins. #EduSky

If you ever want to restore your faith in critical thought and debate, ask a group of undergraduates what they think about AI, social media, and their place in education/learning. Truly.

As faculty & researchers, we haven't yet done nearly enough of this kind of listening. #EduSky

Really useful if you need to explain university finances.

60% of research money for overhead isn’t β€œsiphoning,” it’s β€œbudgeting.” Who do you think pays for heat & upkeep in university buildings? The people who specialize in grant payroll & admin so we can focus on the research? Our grants do.

This thread is important bc it means the AFT has brought a case that shows convincingly how DOGE’s seizure of data creates harm, like exposing consequential financial info for our students who have applied for loans.

Private educational data needs to be protected. Thank you, AFT. #EduSky

Thirty lonely but beautiful actions you can take right now which probably won't magically catalyze a mass movement against Trump but that are still wildly important Why? Because others will see you do them, and it will make it easier for them to take their own (slightly less lonely but equally beautiful) action by your side

If you (like me) have wanted to new ideas for local actions to show care for your community (because WE look after us; Trump & Elon obviously don’t), this list from @garrettbucks.bsky.social is very useful.
