Three weeks ago I was told my book would be featured in the university's newsletter and today I was told it would be "revisited" in a few months because they now require supervisor approval for any books related to AI. LMAO

Since October 2023, Israelโ€™s infrastructure of displacement in Gaza has consisted of so-called โ€˜warningsโ€™, โ€˜evacuation ordersโ€™, โ€˜safe corridorsโ€™, and โ€˜safeโ€™ or โ€˜humanitarian zonesโ€™. FAโ€™s research has revealed these to be little more than performative displays of compliance with long-standing humanitarian and legal norms. In practice, these mechanisms of forced displacement sow terror among the population of Gaza, as unreliable and often uncontradictory orders issued by the Israeli military leave civilians with impossible choices, and surrounded by danger, even after the โ€˜ceasefireโ€™ of October 2025.
In this narrative study, Forensic Architecture documents the story of Nadia* and Ahmad*, a young couple from Beit Hanoun whose experiences tell an individual story of how this โ€˜humanitarian violenceโ€™ unfolds.

We go to sleep in a better country than we woke up in. Thank you to everyone who worked for these coast-to-coast victories, for this utter repudiation of Trumpism, for economic justice and a country for all of us, not for white supremacy.

Ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee Bennie G. Thompson said in a statement โ€œMobile Fortify is a dangerous tool in the hands of ICE, and it puts American citizens at risk of detention and even deportation.โ€ He also said โ€œICE officials have told us that an apparent biometric match by Mobile Fortify is a โ€˜definitiveโ€™ determination of a personโ€™s status and that an ICE officer may ignore evidence of American citizenshipโ€”including a birth certificateโ€”if the app says the person is an alien. ICE using a mobile biometrics app in ways its developers at CBP never intended or tested is a frightening, repugnant, and unconstitutional attack on Americansโ€™ rights and freedoms.โ€

New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

Trump administration considers sale of federal student loan debt The discussions have taken place among senior Education Department and Treasury Department officials.

New POLITICO report: Trump admin is โ€œexploring options to sell parts of the governmentโ€™s $1.6T student loan portfolio to the private market.โ€

We're announcing our willingness to purchase the portfolio for its market value. We will then subsequently cancel the debt.

The selected quote reads:

I tell you this story because I think so often we encounter archives when we are liminal, when we are in between. When we are moving or searching for ourselves or for the truth in the past, sometimes in our own past. When we are looking for a way home. It turns out teetering towards fascism is beyond liminal. If a liminal space is a train station, we seem to all be collectively in limbo, unending uncertainty on the lip of hell. In a haze of epistemological dissonance we witness the shredding of the past through a looking glass so cracked that even the history repeating itself is unrecognizable.

Iโ€™ve done this for 2 weeks now and it *absolutely rules*. Best class discussions Iโ€™ve ever had. Best engagement with readings. They write in this worksheet for 15 minutes, then talk about their responses in groups of 3-4, then groups share with the whole class, and *then* we talk about the readings

What's the best movie about journalism where they get all the little procedural details correct?

The Paper and The Post are quite good in that respect

I know people usually answer All the President's Men or Spotlight, but i'm wondering if there are some less well known ones that I'm missing
