Not. Normal.

We should all be marching on Washington right now. None of this is good or normal and they are crippling us for generations to come. We have already lost more than we can gain back/rebuild, but if we don’t act it’s only going to get worse. And yet, my coworkers don’t even know what’s happening…

Like I genuinely don’t understand how we even come back from SHIT LIKE THIS?!??!

Sued by…? The DOJ lol? The detainees whom the government has (falsely) determined don’t have rights in the US? Who can actually have standing here?

Am I correct in thinking there truly is no way back from all the damage this court has done/will do under this administration? I’m all for being a hopeful warrior but at what point are we in the β€œno return” range?

I want so desperately to be wrong, but the GOP seems hellbent on burning the whole country down to please their idiot leader. What a stupid reason to fuck your country up over! But then again, slavery was pretty dumb too and, well...

Was sitting with my fiancΓ©e the other day and made the point to her that we are barreling towards another civil war and she didn't seem to latch onto the notion. I don't blame her of course, no one SHOULD believe such a thing is even possible at this point in our Union. And yet I now can't UNsee it.

To generalize this down further, it's all (most) conservatives have as their reasoning: grievances. Someone somewhere slighted them once and made them feel less than superior and that was all it was ever going to take.

Also true. Rock and hard place scenario, but DEMs have a LOT of levers they can pull. They just lack testicular fortitude. Plays like this one are only good if the other side doesn't degrade the field even more (they will, Abbott already planning it). We need more drastic plays at this point.

Love that optimism but their leader has been blatantly corrup for 70+ years. Texans (and the larger GOP electorate) do. not. care. Eggs though!

Okay, so they left the state. Cool. Now, what happens if the state parliamentarian and Texas GOP decide the notion of a quorum no longer need apply and move forward without the DEMs….?

Idk but the premise of the question assumes they’d care which side they end up on. Truth is, those who history would judge harshly didn’t give a shit either way.

I work in higher-ed fundraising. It is SO weird hearing how we are losing state/federal funds and that is making our jobs more needed without ANY discussions about WHY we are losing the funding. It’s just, β€œOops, lost some cash for NO REASON AT ALL SO DON’T ASK. Now get back to work and get money.”

Right, they referenced the Latinx US VOTERS WHO VOTED FOR TRUMP, not ALL LATINX AMERICANS. Literally what they said. β€œ60%”. Majority, which is who I have be referring to this entire time.

27.05.2025 19:59 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Dude, NO. That wasn’t the initial point of contention in this whole thread. It would be the VOTERS WHO VOTED FOR HIM AT FAULT.

27.05.2025 19:57 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

YOU brought up demographics in your original response. YOU are, I assume from your profile photo, a member of the white population of the US. ALL LatinX voters are not to blame. The MAJORITY of them ARE, just as the MAJORITY of WHITE voters. Literally how this works πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ

27.05.2025 19:50 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Did I say THIS person in particular voted for it? The β€œTHEY” I referenced was the LatinX electorate, which voted for conservatives in a majority fashion. So, yeah, this was something the MAJORITY of the American LatinX community opted for. EYE voted against this πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ. My heart hurts for em, but πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ

27.05.2025 14:29 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

They LITERALLY VOTED FOR IT. I don’t like or condone the β€œfinding out” happening around the country here but what did they expect? It’s not anyone else’s fault but the voters who voted to him in, and that incudes a MAJORITY of the Hispanic electorate. What’s not clicking here?

'We're citizens!': Oklahoma City family traumatized after ICE raids home, but they weren't suspects A woman says her family’s fresh start in Oklahoma turned into a nightmare after federal immigration agents raided their home, taking their phones, laptops, and life savings – even though they were …

Please highlight this story.

ICE stormed into the wrong house, trashed the place, and made women/girls stand outside in the rain in their underwear. ICE also stole phones, laptops, and cash savings from the family, who moved to OKC two weeks ago.

The stupidity in Trump’s new tariffs is apparently limitless.

He has introduced a 10% tariff on the British Indian Ocean Territory.

The only inhabited island there is Diego Garcia, home to US service personnel.

TRUMP HAS PUT A TARIFF ON A US MILITARY BASE

Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us.

So we have a $17.9 billion trade deficit with Indonesia. Its exports to us are $28 billion. $17.9/$28 = 64%, which Trump claims is the tariff rate Indonesia charges us. What extraordinary nonsense this is.
