The Sunshine Cinema closed on this day in Jan. 2018 after 17 years. Landmark reportedly had the opportunity to buy the property but decided against it after the local Community Board voted down an application for a liquor license in 2012 for pre- and post-movie drinks & dinner. 1/2

A small memorial outside Ray's Candy Store in the East Village pays tribute to Stella Soltowska, who worked here for nearly 50 years. She died last week at age 80.
