I saw this unusual bird a week or so ago in Forest Hill Park. At first I thought it was a bluebird, but then it flew below me (I was on the footbridge over the creek) and I noticed the patch of color on its back. It turns out to be a northern parula -- this is the southern tip of its range. #RVA

The deer are getting their antlers in! This is from Sunday in Forest Hill Park when I was walking along a deer run looking for a goldfinch. Instead I woke up this napping deer, who let me take a few shots.

Bluebird on the wing -- today at Forest Hill Park, where I sat for a while in a little clearing and watched bluebirds and flycatchers catch insects. This one was taking its catch back to a nest in a tree by the pond, so it crossed the field quite often going one way or the other. #RVA #bluebird

That's probably better than my current fetish for YouTube videos about engineering disasters. But at least I won't run out of things to watch.

DEI is instituted to give the marginalized a voice to speak to leadership. It's there so that an institution can change so people don't leave because they think the work environment is hostile to them. Employers need it. To get rid of it is to crimp your ability to be a good workplace.

From a few days ago at Forest Hill Park -- this kingfisher skimmed low over the water down the length of the pond, and then a few minutes later, while I was still watching it, took off back the other way. I was able to snap a few shots, and this one was in focus.

A rough estimate: 243,489 (73k+ veterans if we assume 30%) people are unemployed, counting those who took the buyout. Yes, EPA should be listed twice, but there may be an overlap between the two groups. One was probationary employees; the other was a climate-focused group.
