Interessant ook omdat dit haar tweede verhaal is waarin ze een gefaalde kruistocht beschrijft, met veel historische details

Interessante vondst in de boekendoorgeefkast in het station, een Thea Beckman die ik niet kende, 'de gouden dolk' over een Franse jongen die meegaat met de tweede kruistocht. Ze blijft een schrijfster die ook als volwassene de moeite waard is om te lezen...

Pyra has no experience with magic or liches, but she would be extremely wary of the costs of magic, having read fantasy books from earlier centuries.

Pyra is a 15 year old girl one generation after the Wife School dystopia storyline, one of the first children to be born after the female outlaw tried to be more egalitarian and opened up a bit to men. She's opinionated & intelligent but also considerate and a bit out-of-the-box (like more outlaws)

Forget all the utilitaristic transactional nonsense, the ideal marriage will always be an endless sleepover with your favourite weirdo in which you make all the nonsense of adulting bearable together, and are each others safe space and home.

This is actually a scene from ANOD, retold a generation later to Pyra who lives in completely different circumstances at that point. But she's always interested in the old stories...

Ronan doesn't, but at a certain point in the story Pyra gets hold of the 'magic' of the female outlaws that can put people (and big animals) to sleep. It's not a fantasy story, so there's no actual magic, but some people still have a superstitious fear about it...
