even kevin o'leary? not being snarky, but seeing him in the trailer made me never want to watch the film

But what alarms me in all this is how the girls who were victimized by these men are largely forgotten. I want us to find ways of centering them in the discourse.

i know this sounds crazy, but start at season 4 episode 1! two of the major characters left at the end of s3 (apologies if you already know this), so it’s a great little reintroduction and the humour is way less gross

i loved this tribute. genuine question, as someone trying to learn about TV history - would M*A*S*H not have revived the sitcom from seeming dΓ©classΓ© before Cheers did? or was it viewed as the exception to the genre?

"I was too young to understand quite what she meant. But as I headed off to college in Chicago, I was certainly the world’s least enthusiastic teenage millionaire. Of course, I knew the compensation was a form of blood money. Also, I knew that as an American, my father’s life was considered much more valuable than those of people from other parts of the world. By contrast, in 1996, the United States paid $61.8 million to the families of the victims of the Iran Air flight, which averages out to a little more than $200,000 per death. And we offered no full-throated apology or admission of fault. In fact, the captain of the ship that shot down the plane received the Legion of Merit in 1990."

imo, not that gory, and the gore that does exist is fairly telegraphed if you need to look away (to use an example, if it was a zombie movie, you would hear the zombie before you had to see its appearance) (now if you can't handle the sight of blood at all that's another story)

That was the narrative for her around 10 years ago, that she dated too much (at age 22, mind you). I remember being in seventh grade and trying to explain to friends that just because Adele had a kid with a serious partner by age 24 didn't mean that was a normal expectation for young women.

I had a conversation with my daughter who was like, β€œWhy are people excited? So are you happy that this guy died?” And I was trying to talk about it in terms that I wanted her to take away from this. That it is a bad habit of the soul to celebrate anyone's death. But that emerges from our understanding of our humanity, what we owe to one another, the basic respect and dignity in viewing human lives as precious and in viewing them as valuable. And that's a contract. And there are gonna be some people, like Henry Kissinger, who break that contract at grand scale, and you don't have to be sad when someone like that dies. You can feel relieved. You don't want, in general, to be happy when people die. That is not a good way of being that will ultimately hurt you more than it will hurt them. But there are some people whose deaths come as a relief, and sometimes they come as a relief because justice was never served for the acts of such a person. And relief is the closest thing to justice.

NEW: I spoke with @attackerman.bsky.social about his viral Henry Kissinger obituary, the art of headline writing, and why it’s ok to be relieved when bad people die.
